The burgers here are fantastic and cannot be compared with other burger joints. Everything is freshly made and delicious. The prices can't be beat. I loved their special sauce for the french fries too. We checked in on Yelp and we got a free lemonade (which was also yummy). If you are in Kona, you must try the Ultimate Burger!

I recently returned to Ultimate burger and ordered a bacon burger with fries and a beer. The Beer was good and cold in a frozen mug, that's a A. The fries are made in house and were crispy, that's a A. The burger was cooked properly, that's a A. The bacon was NOT cooked, that's a negative F if there is such a thing. How does someone serve uncooked bacon??? Why did they give it to me? Do not order bacon!

I tried this place recently when I went to Hawaii. The burgers here are REALLY good! I had the ultimate cheese burger. It was fantastic!!! I can hardly believe that I have to go all the way back to Hawaii to have it again. Also the fries were really yummy too! I finished my own and started sneaking some of my moms because they were so good! I highly recommend this place.

Great food, fun causal dinning, and a really nice staff!! I love the Mason Jar lights!! The local grown beef is superb!!! The fries are thin and crunchy, I prefer softer fries but I liked these cause the seasoning they add. I had them with chili they were really good!! The double decker was yummy and really tall, the patties are a great thickness. Not to skinny and not too thick.

Yum, yum, and yum! This place is a must if you are in Hawaii! Best burgers my husband and I ever tasted! They are made with a special sauce. Apparently it's so special that the stain won't come out of my husbands shorts no matter how hard we try to clean them, ha. If you just landed in Kona and are stopping to shop and get your essentials or want a great meal before you fly home this is the perfect stop to fill you up and get you feeling great. They have locally farmed produce and meat that is responsibly grown/raised. I wish they had one of these at home.

It's good, their beef is amazing! U just don't find natural beef like this easily anymore. My husband ordered their triple decker burger, fries and our son a small burger. He said it's the best burger he ever ate in his life. It was pretty tasty and I'm not a burger fan at all. Their fries is soooo good! The service was good too. Good job you guys!

I was really excited for this because I was looking for a place for grass-fed beef from The Big Island. The burger was good and I really liked the aioli! I like that the burgers are a set price and you can add whatever toppings you'd like. I tasted a slight difference in the beef compared to burgers on the mainland, but it wasn't a huge "OMG I HAVE TO TRY THIS". I'd say, the burgers are good, but it's not specifically due to the grass-fed beef - more of how it's prepped.

  • Matt R.

This was a great find for us on vacation. The beef is some of the best that I've ever had. Everything was cooked the way it should and their Fries!!!! OMG. Don't forget to get an order of the fries while you're there.

Good burger, couldn't taste the blue cheese, was it on there? Delicious fries, aioli served on the side is awesome.

Great burger. Fries even better. But an a la carte menu. Plan on spending more than the norm for a burger and fries

  • Heather V.

Friendly and fast, but even more 'the burgers were outstanding. Freshest ingredients, high quality meat and an experience in your mouth that will keep you comin back for more. One order of fries were enough to split 3-4 ways and lunch for four ran 40$. If your in Kona make this a place to stop. Your tastebuds will thank you!

  • Tiffany C.

The burgers here are amazing. Juicy, fresh vegetables, and slightly toasted bun. They give you a creamy sauce for you fries which perfectly complemented the burger. I'd give them 5 stars if their food didn't take so long to come out! I must have waited 30 minutes when there wasn't even a line. This was slightly disappointing, but still really good food.

  • Shawn H.

This might look like a fast food joint from the outside, but this was probably the best food we had during our entire stay on the Hawaiian islands (except maybe for the Poke Shack)! The burgers were absolutely amazing! The chili was amazing! The fries were amazing! The theme here: Amazing!

This place was excellent! I'm so glad that I found it based on great YELP reviews. The girl at the cashier was very sweet when I ordered my cheeseburger, french fries & free lemonade (for checking in). The cheeseburger was delicious and so were the french fries with the house made aioli. I'm sure if there was one in California I'd be visiting it a lot more often. Enjoy if you're on the Big Island!

  • Pam M.

We had high hopes for this place but we were sadly disappointed! We ordered 2 burgers and fries to share, both burgers were horrible! They tasted like a mix of charcoal infused with lighter fluid and grease from last weeks food. We wont go back, no matter how often we see the guy holding the sign at the street corner.

  • Mehran R.

Fresh and good quality vegetables and meet. There were eight of us (2 kids) and very hungary. Staff was able to take our order and get food in front of us very fast. If you want good quality burgers fast, this is the place to go to.

One of the best burger I've ever had. Seasoned well and perfectly cooked. Fries was good too!

Came here for dinner while on the Kona side of the Big Island and I was impressed with the taste and quality of the burgers. This place reminds me of a Five Guys but way better and many many more options of toppings to choose from and all organic. All their beef is 100% Grass-Fed, free range and I'd have to say, the meat was very juicy. I ordered the ultimate cheeseburger with cheddar cheese, teriyaki sauce, and added avocados to my burger as well. What makes the burger even more delicious is their fresh baked brioche bun. I also shared an order of their fresh cut fries seasoned with fresh herbs and accompanied with a good homemade aioli sauce. Prices are a little steep for a simple burger joint, but if you put in the organic vegetables and beef, it makes up for the price in taste and quality. Service is friendly. Seating area is clean. I enjoyed my experience here very much.

Holy cow! This place was jam-packed and slammed when we walked in. Everyone in the back looked hot and exhausted. The dining area was filled to capacity with hotel-workers, families, kids, construction workers, hippies, surfers, Japanese tourists...just about every type of hungry human. We had to get our bearings and wrap our heads around just what was going on with the menu and the mayhem. We found a seat and grabbed it while we had the chance. The menu was pretty simple, so I got a cheeseburger, "pink" with Gruyere, and my girl got a hamburger with no onions. Her burger was "not pink". One ice-tea. One order of fries. It was about twenty two bucks, I believe. After I finished placing the order, the girl at the register said, "it'll be ten or fifteen minutes," and she handed me a number. My feeling was that I would be waiting a long while. The reality was, my order was brought to my table in less than ten minutes, and the people ahead of me didn't wait very long for their food either. I am not used to paying over twenty bucks for two burgers , a fries, and a drink - but I did get the impression that this was a gourmet burger joint, so I held my sticker-shock at bay until my food arrived. The burgers looked pretty and the fries looked like fries. First bite went like this: Oh! Oh! Oh man! I looked over at my girlfriend. Her silence spoke volumes. This was one of the best burgers either of us have ever had. I haven't reviewed any burgers from O.C. or Los Angeles, but not because I haven't had some great ones. But this burger was bad-ass. Fries, also quality. The garlic-aioli took the fries over the top. We devoured our burgers and scarfed down the fries like uncivilized troll-people. Now...many times my girl and I actually share a burger and fries. Never in the history of our relationship have we ever eaten our own, individual burgers and then went back for more. But on our visit to Ultimate Burger, after already eating one burger each, and fries, and after spending over twenty bucks...that is exactly what we did. Most of the patrons had finished eating and left the premises. We were essentially alone. I went back up to the hot, sweaty, smiley cashier and ordered one more burger and one more fries. Twelve more bucks, roughly. My girlfriend finished her half before I finished mine. This place is the business. Fantastic. Best burger money I've ever spent. If you are a tourist in Kona I highly recommend dragging your sun-burned self off the strip and making the very minimal effort required to put this burger in your mouth.

$8 dollar cheeseburger was good, but doesn't come with fries? Not worth it really...tastes good but not for $8.

VERY juicy burgers. I had the blue cheese with avocado. Perfect size for me. Hubby thought it was small. He had his with swiss, onions, mushrooms and peppers. Son had a slider. It was TOO small. I should have just ordered him a regular size. He ended up getting 2 sliders. We also got fries, THEY ARE GOOD. But since Hubby was still hungry he went back and ordered chili fries too.

  • Jena O.

Always impressed with U.T. The burger is usually my go to. I get an ultimate burger with the usual fixings and the fries. The fries rival this juicy burger. They come with a side of pink sauce. So tasty! Although this is a local and organic "burger joint" I might have to say this place does the best fish on the island! If they have a fresh catch- you must have it! The ono sandwich was the best I've ever had.

If you want a great burger at a reasonable price, this is it. Local beef and veggies make it fresh and flavorful. It's busy but you're in Hawaii so don't worry about the wait. Aloha

This place can't get enough stars in my book. Amazing burgers, great friendly service. Husband and I checked our bags early just so we had enough time to stop in here one last time before our flight. When we let them know we were catching a plane, they hustled to take care of us and got our order in. I got the ultimate cheeseburger added bacon and jalapeños. Love the smokey charcoal flavor of the patties, just unreal and so so good. Fries and sauce are amazing, too. We're sad to leave this place behind as we head back to the mainland! To Ultimate Burger: Aloha and Mahalo!

I was excited to try local grass fed beef. I ordered a standard hamburger. The burger itself was delicious, but it was overwhelmed by the bun. I actually picked some of the bun off so I could better taste the burger. The fries were absolutely delicious. Well seasoned and the sauce was tasty. Overall a pretty good meal.

Love this place! Ultimate cheeseburger was great-perfectly cooked and really flavorful beef. Fries and dipping sauce were excellent. I'd be in trouble if it were in my neighborhood:)! If you're hungry after a day at the beach definitely hit this place up! (Close to old Kona airport beach). Gets busy but worth the wait.

I'm a native New Yorker. I have had shake shack, Jackson hole, and burgers that claim they are the best in the world. And I am sorry to say Shake Shack you are dead last in comparison to ultimate burger in Kona, Hawaii. The best burger in the universe, forget the world. The best in the universe!!! Keep up the great work!!!!

Dined on April 12th, 11:30 am. Very clean and brightly lit establishment...Genuinely friendly & helpful service...You place your order, have a seat inside or outside and they bring the food to your table...And they serve Kona Brewing Company Beer on tap... My wife had the Kids Slider ($3.99) and I had the Ultimate Cheeseburger ($7.99). The menu is simple and you can add as many toppings as your heart desires. This is a Burger Joint plain and simple that uses 100% Big Island grown beef. With all the high-end Burger places popping up throughout the Islands, I recommend this place for its simple menu, quality of beef used and having Kona Brew Co. beer on tap.

Honestly one of the tastiest burgers I've ever had, ever. The fries were pretty darn good too. Kind of a small place but it works.

My husband and I stopped in here because of the great reviews on yelp. I checked-in and got a free lemonade. It was a little tart, which i liked. You could tell it was fresh. I had the ultimate cheeseburger with blue cheese, avocado, bacon, and carmalized onions. I loved the burger. It wasn't huge, but was very moist, cooked to perfection, and the perfect lunch size. I devoured it all along with the fries and was full but not over stuffed. The garlic aiole was amazing as well.

While my husband and I were vacationing in Kona we meet a great guy named Kelly while riding the Trolley. Kelly gave us some VIP coupons to Ultimate Burger. We just happen to be in the mood the following day and enjoyed an AMAZING burger. Turns out Kelly is the manager :) we will definitely be back. Thank you Kelly for introducing us to the ULTIMATE BURGER.

We ate there 2 days ago after looking for a quick bite. The burger was very decent. The size of the party is big, and I think it's 1/3 lb after cooking. I ordered with pink and it was very juicy, the blue cheese was a bit too strong and overshadowed the grass feed beef. They could add some grilled onion to add flavour. The ice tea was very bland and for 3$ I was expecting a bit more. The fries was excellent and well seasoned. Would recommend to anyone.

Amazingly delicious burger! Seasoned fries, burger sauce is good not to mention their Aioli is is delicious on the burger as well as for dipping the fries. I had the triple cooked medium, with bacon, blue cheese with melted cheddar on top of that, jalapenos, avacado, lettuce and tomatoe. And it's all local beef and locally made buns fresh daily! Good lemonade too.

Why does the best burger I've ever had have to be in Hawaii with me in Cali?! Was it meant to bring my trip to a rising crescendo after 10 days in paradise? It did do that. Was it to make me want to teach another seminar at the University of Nations sooner rather than later? It did that too. That was my very first grass fed burger..And now I know that really makes a difference. It was so juicy and flavorful that I didn't need to use the "tomato wine" (Ketchup a la Oscar Madison)! No mass produced hockey pucks here... And the fries, with their aioli-garlic dipping sauce, were crisp but tender inside. I really tried to eat it all very slowly as I watched the NBA finals on their big screen. The Spurs even won... A coincidence? I think not! But a well planned pleasure-fest... Organized by heaven.

This is without a doubt the BEST BURGER I have EVER had. Hands down. The sauce is amazing. It's all amazing. And they use fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Just go here, you won't regret it.

Wanted to get something to go and take back to the condo. Read the reviews saw the guy on the side of the road and thought it sounded good. We ordered 3 different burgers with 2 sets of fries and it came to over $40.00 without drinks. The price wasn't out of line if it was as good as lead to believe with the reviews. The burgers had no taste to them at all. Non of us ate all our burger and all agreed that just no taste. A bit of a let down for what the cost was. The fries were soggy maybe it was the 10 min drive back. In my opinion if your looking for something in that price range for 3 you may want to look around. Not many choices but never the less look. Wasn't the worst thing ever but not worth the cost.

With all the amazing exotic island-inspired restaurants in Kona, I never thought we would choose to have a meal at a burger place - but we're glad we did!!!! The burgers (and veggie option, with mushrooms) are awesome, and I'd venture to say maybe the best burger I've ever had. The fries were incredible as well - I've never thought to use fresh thyme as a topping, but it was really good. Everyone who worked there was extremely friendly and in a great mood the day we went. Also, my husband and I both used the Yelp check-in app to get the free lemonade deal which, by the way, was delicious. If we're ever back on the Big Island, I will definitely be seeking this place out again!

  • Lori T.

First, they messed up my order so bad they actually wound up canceling it entirely and never redid it until I complained about how long I had been waiting, that's when they realized they hadn't "fixed"their mess up, they just took my money and then cancelled the ticket to the cook. When she finally does bring it out it isn't to go like I ordered it. When I do get my"ultimate" burger, a double, it is the size of a McDonalds Big Mac. Yes, that's right, $10 for a basic, no cheese double burger + $4 for a small bag of fries, and I mean small. Never again!! The burger was OK, the fries overly greasy. Can not figure out what on earth is "ultimate" about any part of this place.

Great burger! I definately recommend. The beef was fresh, and the fries were nice and thin just the way I enjoy them!

  • Kelly T.

Shaka brah! This place has got the burger down! I did a bacon cheese burger with fries. Really good but it was hot as hell inside that place on the day we went. Still one of the best burgers you can get.

  • Kawika K.

On the plus side the burgers are great tasting, and just as important, made with grass fed and hormone free beef. On the negative side the menu is small and the burgers are tiny... 6 bites and my burger was gone! The prices are a tad high for a burger, but not terribly overpriced. We also ordered their fries and dipping sauce which was tasty. They have a friendly staff, and the joint is clean!

  • Cherish H.

My family is weird and likes to eat tons of Mainland style food when in Hawaii! However this place has good burgers and even good veg food. Fries are good but I've had better. Lemonade is delicious- check-in on Yelp for a free one. Mushroom sandwich is veg friendly with grilled onions, shrooms, and garlic aioli on a soft brioche bun. Super amazing, drip down your hands and face goodness. PS- They're opening a sister branch in SoCal in December. Yummilicious Factor = A

0 Stars = Ultimate Service?...heck no. When I approached to place my order, the cashier shared that she was not having a good day because she had to be at work at that moment. (Really? Do I need to be hearing about this?) 0 Stars = Ultimate Uniforms?....heck no. The cashier went on to complain about the cowboy hats they have to wear. (Really? Do I need to hear about the "cheesy stetsons" management makes you wear?) 0 Stars = Ultimate Cheeseburger?....Heck NO!. Ok, so the beef is locally grown and grass-fed. Low impact in regards to our ecological foot-print. AWESOME! But how does it taste?.....It tasted and had the consistency of what I would expect damp cardboard to taste like. Bland, chewy and luke-warm.(Really? I felt like I was chewing on a grass based patty cud,) 1 Star = Ultimate Fries?....Very good fries with the sauce on the side. Unique flavors and cooked well. 0 Stars = Price/Value?....HECK NO! Nearly $15 for a cheeseburger, fries and a bottle of water with only the fries being "ultimate". Overall:...IMO--May be I hit this place on the wrong day (cashier/cooks would rather be out in the sun rather than flipping and serving burgers???). However on this Sunday, the "Ultimate" Burger eatery was outrageously over-priced for the product and service that I received. I'll get my burger fix from somewhere else on the island.

  • Johnny F.

The burger was amazing. One of the best I have had and I like how everything is locally grown and fresh, not processed. We also had the chill and it was excellent. The fries were good, not the best, but again good, but I think what stood out for us here is the burgers itself. The prices were a little higher than expected for the portion and the fries are quite expensive. But I would say, even though the prices were higher than what we would pay for a burger and fries, we would recommend it to anyone and we would come here again.

  • Thomas P.

This place is amazing. You can really get the ultimate burger here. Everything here is fresh and locally grown or raised. I had the ultimate cheeseburger with bacon, onions, mushrooms and a side of fries. We also had a pitcher of beer to top everything off. Service here is great. People are friendly and food comes out quick. And just to seal the deal; if you check in here with yelp, you score a free lemonade!

  • Imi Y.

Great variety of choices....prices not too bad for grass fed beef...service was good but took them three tries to get one of our orders correct. Nice little place.

  • Gary P.

Solid! This place really is doing it right. Friendly staff, great location and great food of course. Not much to the menu but it is what it is, a burger place. When you have quality ingredients and your stuff together you don't need 50 different menu options. They do burgers, a couple sandwiches, salad and fries. This place is all about local sourcing which is an automatic bonus in my book, and throw in the fact that these burgers are some of the best I've had, ever, makes this place a solid 4. It may be worth a five but I don't just hand those out you know... Bonus: Free lemonade with check-in, homemade too not that country time crap. Bottom line_________GO HERE!

Happen to be in Hawaii (Big Island) and in the mood for a scrumptious burger? Then head over to the Ultimate Burger. This is by far one of the best burgers I have ever had! Fries are perfectly crispy and burgers are garden-fresh and juicy. After speaking to one of the employees they mentioned opening up a store in Sacramento. I hope that is the case. Anyhow, enjoy.

A on service and food. Ate here with my wife's family, wife and daughter. We were drawn in by the friendly guy standing on the side of the street waving the "Ultimate Burger" sign. Skeptical, I asked some of the people eating here before we committed--the locals said best burger place in town. They were nice, quick to get us our food and the beef was great. The beef in the hamburger was absolutely perfect--not greasy, but very flavorful. Apparently, I never finished this review from 2 years ago. Now I'm back in Kona and have to finish!! We've been coming here for years since they opened and still love them. Our favorite is just the plain Cheeseburger--anything else actually dampens the magical taste of the beef & homemade buns!

Went there last night with two hungry kids and it was ok. Medium well patties were more like medium rare. We were too hungry to have them cooked some more. The frys were decent but the place was a little dirty on the floors and the tables were sticky.

  • Luis Otavio Borba T.

Amazing hamburger! The waiters are really cool and attentive. If you miss to eat a good quality burger, which you don't find much in Hawaiian islands, visit this place, its going to be worth it!

Got the Ultimate Cheeseburger with Big Daddy Fries. Staff was friendly, got the orders backwards, but easy to straighten out. The burger was well seasoned but unevenly cooked (rare on one side and well-done on the opposite). Still, quite tasty. Big Daddy fries are garlic fries with aioli. Very good.

On our way back to Kailua Kona from Volcano National Park, there aren't many restaurants that are open late so we drove into a shopping plaza and ordered some delicious juicy burgers right before they closed and they weren't even mad! Still served us and was super nice and let us eat there! They pride themselves in their local grass fed beef, and ingredients from local farms. The burgers were indeed juicy and you can choose toppings like avocado, pineapple, mushrooms, jalapeños and much more! With a side of aioli garlic fries and an ice cold lemonade, perfect way to finish the night and continue our drive back to Waikoloa. The service is friendly and the establishment was clean. If you have to eat fast food while here on the Big Island, at least get a burger with quality meat! Come here!

  • mike k.

Pretty good place to eat. Ahi burger was really good and key give a good portion of fish! Also, the fries were great. Cut thin with a good sauce. However, the burgers were good but not ultimate. They also screwed up one of the burgers and put everything when we wanted nothing it plain. Since this was to go we had to suffer and just scrape it off. Beats the McDonald's in the same shopping center.

  • Dallas M.

The ultimate burger rates higher because the food. The service and the young lady who rang the order left nothing to be desired. The saving grace which easily could have been a much lower rating, was the burger. We arrived late lunch time, it was pretty busy but by the time we ordered the line has gone and tables cleared. Yelps check in for free lemonade was not a selling point in my opinion. Some fresh lemonades get that floor cleaner taste and that was the case here. I ended up pouring it out. The burger had great smokey grilled flavor, the fries were also done really well. Their aioli is also a great compliment to their fries. Knowing their food is local sourced is a ++ in our book. So if you trip out to the kona area and want a burger this place would be my suggestion. Be aware the service though, isn't going to blow you away.

  • Mike B.

The burgers were fresh and delicious... But the sum of all of the little things brought this rating down. * Burgers were ordered medium. All were well done. If you can't cook a burger medium, don't offer! * tables were dirty, service average in general * $1 for refills on green tea from a pitcher when soda refills are free? Come on... * fries were cold. There were two bake pans full of them behind the register just sitting out. With fresh burgers, you should make sure things are fresh all the way around * out of lemonade... * on the pricey side. $60 for 4 w/nothing special. If they had pulled it off flawlessly, sure - but wasn't even close.

This place was very busy with tourists and natives that all had one thing in mind....getting a top notch burger. It seemed like everyone walked away happy, as evident in seeing and hearing them as the left the joint. My wife ordered a cheese burger with grilled pineapple and I ordered the same with bacon (crazy, right?) as well as some chili and fries. The burgers were perfect size, not overly huge and hard to handle and not tiny. The burger meat is from grass fed cattle that was locally raised and their ingredients are all locally sourced (I think organic, too). The chili was loaded with meat and had the perfect amount of spicy kick to it. If you check in with YELP you'll get a free medium lemonade too, which was dang good. The wait time to get the burgers was 5 minutes and it's delivered to your table. My only grip was that the cashier was short and not very informative. But i'll let it slide because the food deliverer was upbeat, smiling and happy (or so she seemed). If you are in Kona on the Big Island, this place is a must see.

The best burger that I've had in Hawaii, just outstanding in texture and flavor, blew me away. Minus 1 star cause $4.00 for the fries too much, I feel like I maybe got $3.00 worth of fries, increase the quantity if you're going to charge $4.00!

Yummy organic burgers locally grown! Visiting from San Diego and this burger was a great price with the only the best ingredients, fries were bomb and lemonade was tasty too! Not a fan of greasy, bigger is better burgers so if your looking for that type of meal this is not the place.

Horrible. Burger was dry and taste like it was frozen. Charged .49 for two extra pickles. I would not go back here.

Went here for our last lunch in Hawaii before going back to Cali. The food was fast. The price was kind of $$ for just a basic burger personally. But I guess you pay for the "best" ingredients.. My burger was 9 plus 4 for fries. The taste was pretty good nothing exceptional for the price. And when they brought it out the person screamed our number a couple times right off the bat without looking for us first and it made me feel awkward. The place was clean and their sauce was good. Worth the try before leaving.

Delicious grass-fed beef burger and fantastic fries. My husband and I split the fries but I could have eaten a basket myself. I appreciate the options of cheese to add to the burger, it can be rare to find anything more than cheddar or American but I was able to add pepper jack here. For a price increase you can add bacon which I didn't do but my husband and step-dad did and they said it was really good. My mom ordered the salad and loved it. Overall, a great meal. If I were a local I would be a regular!

This place definitely did not disappoint; I wished we had time to come back one more time before our flight. The aioli sauce is really good with the fries. I ordered the Ultimate TKO burger which was around $14 - I finished it in less than ten minutes but opted not to be on the facebook page. I would have requested another patty be added onto the burger or on the side - it was THAT good. The ingredients were very fresh as well. If I ever go back to the Big Island, this will be the first thing I eat!!!

A truly satisfying burger experience. My wife and I are in Hawaii for our honeymoon and we decided we'd give this place a try. I ordered their ultimate cheeseburger with jalapeño and bacon. They were out of avocado, but no matter. My burger was absolutely delicious to the last bite. I was actually disappointed when I realized I'd finished the whole thing in under .000005 seconds. My wife opted for the protein burger ( no bun for the non-gluten free folks in our midst.) anywhere that caters to the complex palette that is my wife is a win in my book. I'll only give this place a 4 star rating due I the girl at the front. She seemed tired and not happy to be there. And due to the beautiful Hawaiian weather, I don't blame her. Overall, good eats!

Fun atmosphere! Lemonade was delicious and not too sweet. Burgers were awesome! Probably the best burger ive had in a long time!

While on vacation here, we decided to catch a movie at the theater in Kona. We were gonna eat in town, but time was running short, so we stumbled upon this place, which was closer to the theater. WOW! Definitely a hippy/surfer vibe here, but in a good. way. The burgers were amazing. Easily into my Top 5 I've ever had. Customer service was great, very nice people. They do seem to randomly run out of ingredients, but I'll be honest, it didn't matter. Oh, and the fries are pretty darn good too with the aioli dip. The burger is THAT GOOD. Go, eat there now!

Better than Annie's Island Burgers by a long shot. The fish burger and cheeseburger were really good and the fries are outstanding with their housemade aioli sauce.

Great burger, friendly staff, cool decour, good vibe, great service. Only way to make it better is to add a good milkshake to the menu.

I was super thrilled to try Ultimate Burger, but it does not live up to the hype! Based on the reviews, I was willing to travel to the strip mall just outside downtown to sample the "farm to table" burgers at this joint. At arrival, the menus available outside actually had more Japanese on them than English. There's nothing wrong with providing multiple translations, but at least make an effort to explain the menu items in English. The establishment was very hot and dirty inside (somewhat surprising considering the reviews and concept). It looked like a typical fast-food restaurant without the quality control and professionalism I would expect. When we ordered, the cashier asked if we wanted our burgers "pink or no pink." It took me a minute to get what she was asking, and I find that terminology off-putting. We all asked for medium-well, and she looked perplexed by our request. I noticed the sketchy food preparation as we waited for our burgers (a long time!). The kitchen looked dirty, and the employees had some of their long hair hanging down (just gave me the "sketchy" feeling). When the burgers arrived, they were petrified. They were overwhelmingly dense, extremely overdone, and just disappointing. The "local" ingredients were tasty, but the overall composition of the burgers was just not there. The first bite was dense, sort of flavorless, and just uninspiring. The fries looked tasty and crispy, but they were flavorless and missing salt (one of the worst, basic culinary offenses in my book). Salt your fries!! Ultimately, they are trying way too hard and making critical execution errors. I would head to some of the other burger options in the area.

The Ono burger was the best. We loved the aioli sauce too! I wish there was an Ultimate Burger on the mainland!

I left the house early this morning with a banana in hand, and drank free coffee from the Hawaiian Airlines lounge. I tell you, commuting for work sometimes sucks, as it's a grind! But on the bright side, I can always look for a new place for some good grindz when I'm traveling! Today, while I was on the Big Island, I was looking for some grub..........didn't know what I really felt like until I stumbled on to this joint called the - "ULTIMATE BURGER". Hummmmmm, with a name like that, we will have to see about that! I walked in & ordered me a Ultimate Cheese Burger with Fries, and a small Diet Coke. What can I say..........they advertise that they use 100% grass fed, free range, Big Island beef from the Parker Ranch. When you eat this burger, you can definitely tell the difference. The burger tasted so fresh..........nothing like you would get at any fast food joint. My burger had onions, pickles, lettuce, tomato, some kind of sauce, and they also let you choose the cheese which I ended up picking the Swiss cheese. Of course, for this type of burger, you know it's gonna cost you a little more that the usual stuff you get at a - MickeyD's, Jack's, or King. I paid $14.55 total for my meal - (cheese burger, fries, & a small drink). All worth it, as sometimes I feel a little "upscale" on my burger grindz!

Sampled island grown ingredients burger at Ultimate Burger. The burgers were delicious, soft bread, tasty sauce, grilled onions, and fresh veggies. Garlic fries served with aioli were so good. Had a sip of the fresh squeezed lemonade, and it was just right. Counter service could be friendlier and prices are a bit expensive for the portions. But overall great food.

I love this place for their burgers just like everyone else. However, the green tea is always very watered down and its expensive. Just wanted to let management know that this has consistently been my experience. That;s the only thing I would change though...keep rocking the french fries and grass fed beef!

  • Mr. N.

The burgers here are absolutely delicious. The beef tastes delicious and the burger has a home made taste. You can taste the propane from the grill on the burger, and it is delicious. This place is all about fresh and organic food, and you can taste it. The vegetables on the burger (especially the tomatoes) taste like they are right out of a garden. They are delicious. Alongside the vegetables, they have the fries (which don't come with the burger). They chop up the potatoes, and give this amazing tangy sauce on the side. You have to try their fries. Overall, it's a great place for a cheap lunch if your in kona (burgers are 6$). I'd recommend this place to anyone!

Great burgers!! Been on a quest for the best burger and have found it!! By far, best burger I have ever had! My only request would to have a smaller portion of fries. Great service as well. Staff is A+!

So i got the ultimate double burger it was definitely fresh and quality meat was perfectly cooked taste was all there. The fries are really good a simple menu for a simple guy according to other reviews i read they take long i didn't wait yup long myself but what do you expect from quality food that isn't froze two thumbs up here.

These burgers are amazing. They taste fresh and natural due to the beef coming from grass fed cows and the fresh made brioche bun. I had the ultimate cheeseburger and added bacon and avocado. Very delicious!!

The Shake Shack/Super Duper -esque place of Hawaii. You can tell the ingredients are fresh and the meat is grass fed so the product is good to begin with. The execution is great as well. This is not one of those iffy places you encounter on vacation. The burger was juicy but well cooked and the fries were amazing. The staff is nice and the place is cute. A definite must try.

First time eating here! Great food, served quick and fresh. The French fries are amazing! And the house made aioli dipping sauce that goes with them is also fantastic. I also received a free freshly squeezed lemonade for checking into this location, which is a bonus in my book. Great knowing your ingesting a healthier option to McDonald's, with grass fed, locally raised Hawaiian beef (no hormones or antibiotics added), and organic local produce. Yum!

We were shopping at the HIC store and decided to give this place a try. Ultimate Burger takes pride in using locally grown products, which give the burger its fresh taste. It's a decent burger and probably one of the better places in the area. The paniolo chili was a little too watery for my liking, but the fries were enjoyable.

  • Jessica S.

Ultimate burger is consistently good! They have fantastic cheeseburgers with various toppings (for additional $). The fries are great and the aioli they serve with it is fantastic!! When they have the Ahi sandwhich on special...get it...it rocks! They have great iced tea and lemonade and if you 'check in' on Yelp it is free! The staff is very friendly and it is cute that for every number (order) they call out they yell, "Lucky number ... !!!" Very upbeat, yummy, and overall great place to eat!

  • Jeff L.

This place is awesome! Outstanding burgers and fries. The staff is very friendly and this was probably the most reasonably priced place on the island to eat at. If you're in Kona and want a great burger, this is a must.

  • Tony L.

Ultimate Burger was the first place that we ate at while on the Big Island, and it was a good choice. Located about 15-20 minutes south of the airport, it isn't too far if you have a rental car. Lots of the food that they use is local. I ordered a grass-fed burger with blue cheese and mushrooms, and it was incredibly juicy. The burger itself isn't very big, so if you are hungry, I would recommend getting the double. We also ordered the fresh fries, and they were nice and crispy. Be sure to check in on Yelp to get a free lemonade.

The best burger and fries I've had...maybe ever? No really, it's that delicious! The service is super awesome too--ask for Kelly! He's the best, and hooked me up with some extra sauce for my fries...it was some kind of aioli and was absolutely to die for. The ultimate cheeseburger with avocado was perfectly prepared and the house made lemonade was so good, I ordered a second, which I normally never do. Use your yelp app to check in and get a lemonade for free! Amazing spot for lunch!

I was really craving a burger on our last night in Kona, so of course it made sense to try the ultimate burger. Unfortunately when we got there, they told us that it would be a 25 min wait for a burger because a group had just put in their order. Also they were out of fries. When we were uninterested in waiting, we were considering other burger options, the cashier kept trying to persuade us to stick around, going so far as to badmouth a nearby restaurant where we planned to go instead in an effort to get us to stay. We might have considered waiting 25 min for fast food, but the fact that they were also out of fries was a total deal breaker since I was traveling with vegetarians and there was no apparent veggie option. The young woman at the counter's comments definitely didn't help either.

We agreed this was a much better burger than at Annie's. Annie's is a nicer restaurant with a great vibe and in a nice part of the island headed south towards Kealakekua. UB is in a strip mall across from Target down in Kona. I believe both are grass fed local cows from Hawaii but UB seasons the beef better, cooks it better, and is on a better bun. The fries are also much better. We washed it all down with a bottle of Coke. Very good.

Great burger! We are visiting from Oahu and needed a quick bite on our way to the airport. The hostess was really nice and recommended what to get. Will definitely be back on our next trip :)

I was on vacation in Kona from Oahu for 4th of July weekend. I have to say I wasn't completely blown away by this place. The cheeseburger was pretty small and the fries were so-so. I don't know if I just got the "bottom of the batch" fries but they def weren't fresh. I will say though, the sauce they use on the burger was pretty damn good. The staff members were friendly and we got our burgers fairly quickly. The big reason we came to Ultimate Burger is because they use locally grown products and that is a huge plus! Way to support the locals! Overall $30 for 2 mediocre small burgers, a batch of unfresh fries, and 2 small drinks wasn't really worth it to me. If I'm ever back in Kona I may or may not give this place another chance.

  • Brenda M.

Understand this is a gourmet 'cooked to order' burger place and completely worth the higher price. I'd go back for another sautéed mushroom & onion, Swiss cheese burger any day! Fries are great too with the aioli sauce. My husband loves the tart lemonade.

Like most Californians-I am a diehard In-n-Out fan. Living on Oahu has been a challenge because all the burgers I've had are (1) subpar in quality to In-n-Out and (2) way more expensive. When the bf and I found ourselves hungry in Kona, Ultimate Burger lured us in with the tantalizing burger pictures on Yelp. What we found was what I considered to be the closest thing to In-n-Out in Hawaii. Fresh, never frozen. and locally owned. Ultimate Burger utilizes island ingredients. On the first day, we shared a Double Decker ($9.99) with grilled pineapple ($0.99 extra) and fresh cut fries ($3.99). We snuck another trip in before flying out and there was no talk of sharing :p In fact, I was tempted to order their Ultimate TKO, which is is 4x4 ($14.99). In the end, I wussed out and ordered a double decker and a bowl of chili. Talk about being super stuffed! I had meant to take the chili to-go for lunch the next day, not realizing that chili is a liquid and I'd have to check it at the airport. Because I hate wasting food, I guzzled the chili down :/ Thanks Nat N. and Cameron B. for your great reviews of Ultimate Burger :)

Kind of hit or miss, lately. Ordered two burgers, for both the bottom bun was pretty soggy. Not really up to the quality of a Whopper Jr. Fries still OK tho.

Solid, yummy burgers with good topping options. The fries were very tasty, but agree with other reviewers that there could be a few more in there. Service was super friendly, seating area was a bit loud and tables all needed a wipe-down.

A burger eatery that offers counter service only shouldn't take 20 plus minutes to complete a single burger order. If you don't mind waiting for your food during peak hour periods then I'd recommend the kosher salt, thyme french fries to accompany your burger. They're homemade, delicious and crispy! My cheeseburger was served hot. I can't say that there was anything spectacular about the burger that I ordered. I expected to taste some of the natural flavors that accompany a grass fed beef from anywhere in the world, but all I could taste was an overwhelming flavor that I couldn't put my finger on. Now that I've been told that the flavor I was tasting was garlic and a dry rub recipe, I guess all I was tasting then was dry rub. I've had burgers from other places here on the Big island that served Big island grass fed beef and I could taste the beef, but not in the burger from here. it would be nice if the customer could choose what level of spiciness that they'd prefer in their dry rub seasoning; much like people are allowed to select the level of spiciness/seasoning mix in Chinese and Mexican food. This isn't a burger eatery I'll frequent in the future as the cheeseburger I ordered left a bad aftertaste in mouth. However, I have to admit that I prefer a less spicy dry rub. I might come back here though just for the french fries!

I have to say I was skeptical about this place probably because of it's location, it's in a shopping mall area in between two other fast food places BUT I'm so glad we checked it out because it's one of the best burgers I've ever had and their fries were amazing as well! Definitely worth checking out if you like burgers!!

This is strictly for the cheeseburger I got with all the trimmings (cheddar, jalapenos, onions, bacon, mushrooms). My gfs got the mushroom burger and fish burger, bleh.. they were descent.. but this place is about MEAT BURGERS.. so I'll stick to that. Simply put, this hit every spot I needed for my burger fix. Had just finished the Kona Half Marathon and needed some protein and grease bad. This place did not disappoint. Great atmosphere: fun, clean and there's outdoor seating. Service was quick and friendly. Burger was a bit pricey because of all the trimmings I added (12 bucks) but flavors made up for it. If you're needing a burger in Kailua Kona, this is a great stop.

  • Alexander M.

"Pink or no pink" is how they ask about cooking your burger. I wouldn't ask if they're all going to come out well done! The burgers were tasty which Tillamook cheddar, the lemonade wasn't too sweet, but the green iced tea could use some honey. The cashier was unfriendly : (.

  • Teresa L.

Ok so it's a good burger. BUT price is astronomical!!! Not worth it all. Service here is the worse!!! You wait forever. I'd rather be eating at a nice oceanfront place on Alii drive for a lot less money, better service and atmosphere. I'll never waste a dime of my money here again.

I visited Ultimate Burger twice while I was in the Kona area on business. Their burgers are big for the price and delicious. They taste fresh (because they are) and all the produce also tastes fresh. The only drawback I've ever encountered is they run out of things, but I don't necessarily think that is a bad thing. They state that they are super picky regarding their food and if it doesn't make the cut they don't purchase it. I like companies that practice what they actually say. And their house made aioli for dipping fries I absolutely love. This will be a favorite stop when I'm in the Kona area for sure!

Hawaiian Beef tastes different and with all the good toppings, I'm a fan. Any good burger place that is at least Five Guys level and with the Hawaiian twist is worthy visit. Service is a little slow. So just be chill and get into the Hawaian "Aloha" culture.

Good burger. A bit pricy but got a free lemonade with yelp check in. Lots of parking and other restaurants nearby if your dining partner wants something other than a burger. Lots of big screens tuned into surfing. Would defiantly go back.

Dis place is da Bomb. We hit the Big Island once a year and this is always on the to do list. This place + beers at the harbor = great visit to see Dad. Food is fresh and hot + tasty. Make it your way and it tastes great! I would buy a franchise if I didn't already work in the business and know how much it sucks up your personal life.

Don't let the name or the fact that this place is in a strip mall fool you. This is a killer local sourced restaurant. The beef is local grass fed and the fish was probably swimming the day before. If your lucky enough to go when they have the Ono as the fresh fish stop what your going and get the fish burger. It comes on a incredibly fresh sweet bun with an amazing tarter sauce and the freshest fish you could ask for. My mouths watering as I write this. The burgers are not to be missed either. Super juicy, perfect size and lots of extras to personalize it. They have a delicious lemonade that comes in a big mason jar and the beer comes in a frozen frosted mug. I wish this place had a cooler name. Ultimate Burger seems so generic. But as they say don't judge a book by its cover!

We always stop at the Ultimate Burger for our last meal on the Big Island. Conveniently located 10 minutes from Kona International Airport, it's the best place to come for great-tasting food before your flight. They use 100% grass fed, free range, Big Island beef. You can definitely tell the difference. It just tastes so fresh and juicy. Their "ultimate fresh cut fries" are AMAZING. They are cut fresh every day, and fried in 0 trans fat canola oil. Perfectly seasoned with thyme and kosher salt - no ketchup needed! It takes them a while to fill your order since everything is made to order, but it's definitely worth the wait! 10% discount for Kamaainas and military. Don't forget to check-in using the Yelp app for a free housemade lemonade!

Although I have a pretty big sweet tooth my favorite thing to eat is actually a really good burger and fries. There's something so comforting about biting into a perfectly cooked, juicy burger. And when it's accompanied by lightly salted hand cut fries, bliss. Absolute bliss. Ultimate Burger is located in the Kona Commons shopping area. (Right across Target!) It serves organic grass-fed beef burgers which are made fresh daily. The fries are seasoned with parsley and thyme and served with their house made aioli. LOVE that. For those who might want an ice cold beer along with their meal, Ultimate burger has Kona Brewing Company Longboard Lager on tap. Prices are typical of a place that serves this type of burger, about $7-9 for one. For me, it's worth the price. You get something really tasty and you're also supporting local farmers and ranchers. The next time you're in the Kona area, take a drive out to Ultimate Burger. You'll be really happy you did.

I had a bad experience at Ultimate Burger tonight. I ordered my cheeseburger medium-rare, as I have the past 3 times, but tonight my burger came out somewhere between raw and rare. OK, no biggie, mistakes happen. I took my burger with one bite out of it to the counter and told them I needed it cooked more, that it was NOT medium rare. The cashier was friendly enough and explained that this was how their cook does medium-rare. (So how does that explains the last 3 times my burger being cooked more?) Anyway, the point is not to haggle over whether it's rare, raw or medium-rare, just cook my burger more and they were happy to oblige. Anyway, at least 10 minutes go by and everyone on earth that came after me gets their food and now I have finished my fries and my companion has already finished her meal. So, I walked up to the counter again and asked for my money back. They had completely forgotten to fix my order! The nice cashier apologized and gave me my money back while I let the cooks know how pissed off I was. Even though the dining room is small and I'm sitting right there staring at the kitchen waiting for my burger, they are so stupid they can't even take care of this problem. Note to management, you better get your shit together because you just lost 2 customers, 1 kama'aina and 1 very regular tourist. I gave this place 5 stars for my first review, but I will never come back. Amateurs. Other negatives. The meat in the burger tasted off and my companion thought so too and she's eaten here many more times than me. We got our fries right away after we ordered, but it took over 10 minutes to cook 2 skinny little 1/4 pound beef patties when no one else was even in the place. Come on! I'm not going back to The Ultimate Shitty Overpriced Burger place again. Aloha.

Fast friendly service.. They even came to the table to see if all was OK. Only thing I'd recommend is up keeping the place. All napkins were gone.. Trash by the soda machine and counters and tables were dirty. I'll return for the food. I still have to try the fries!

The Grilled Pineapple Chicken Burger with an Onion Ring in the middle and Coleslaw. Top it with Spicy Orange Habanero Sesame Sauce and Jalapeño Jam. Oh My God. So Good. I miss this place.

It was my first time at ultimate burger and let me say I will be returning! Can't wait for my next kona trip, hehe. I was so happy because they had a meatless option for me. I had the vegetarian mushroom burger with avocado as an add on, and ultimate fries. The brightly colored pics on the wall stared at me showing me how they use fresh ingredients and grass fed beef. I could see, as well as taste the freshness in my burger. The mushrooms were different. Chopped up and sautéed, and full of flavor. Tomato was ripe and juicy. Avo was perfect. Next time I'm ordering my own basket of fries instead of sharing with the bf haha. Service was also great. Friendly staff, and they brought our burgers to our table.

Great food. Fresh and wonderful flavor. Looks like a fast food place and tastes WAY better. The fries are excellent, maybe the best fries I have eaten. I highly recommend it if you are I'm the area, or not too !!

The great service people are talking about was lost on me. I got here at 9:00 one night and granted that is when they were closing but was trying to get a burger to go. They still had patties on the grill and everything but the employees refused to serve me. I would have refused to ever go back again but all the local ingredients sucked me in. First and foremost they really need to have a sign somewhere to tell you that these are CHARBROILED burgers!! If I had known that I would have turned around and left. as it was I did not find out until I had my burger. I will say that it was the best charbroiled burger I have ever had though. Serves Dr Pepper (being from Texas that is a big plus) The fries were excellent. The veggies and patty were all also very good.

I had a cheeseburger and fries. And was pleasantly surprised that the price was $12. Good price for locally grown burgers. Burger: sauce was tasty and the veggies looked fresh. Burger was a little dry but overall very good especially since I've been eating a lot of McDonald's recently haha. Fries: tastea fresh also has a hint of a spice or herb I can't put my finger on. It's about 4 bucks for Fries but u get a lot Service: pretty fast and friendly. Idk how they remain so up beat. Overall: I really like that there's a local burger place that's got easy parking. Next to all the big box stores and boh so it's convenient for me. I was impressed with the taste and speed and looking forward to coming back. With so many chains in Kona feels nice to eat some place locally owned. Btw, the logo may be ugly but food is good.

In-N-Out Burger? Seriously? How someone could even remotely consider that a valid comparison to Ultimate Burger is beyond comprehension. For those thrown by that reference from a few cult followers, don't let that sway your decision to visit Ultimate Burger. If you enjoy great (real) burgers, this is the place. The meat is cooked to your preference of medium or well, a choice that most burger places don't allow, since they are concerned about the quality of their beef. Ultimate Burger starts with quality, per their site, "...100% Grass Fed, free range, fresh ground; raised on the Big Island of Hawaii - antibiotic and hormone free." Truly enjoyed it (Ultimate Cheeseburger) and fresh-cut seasoned fries, with garlic aioli on the side. Top quality in everything we had. Highest recommendation for anyone that appreciates a great burger.

I expected more considering the great yelp reviews. Not worth the average $10 a burger price.

Food tasted great. Restaurant was a bit messy and seemed a little dirty. The food was delicious. 2 burgers fries and a drink plus 1 beer seemed a bit steep for the restaurant but the food freshness and quality was awesome. Great burgers!

When traveling, we're all about supporting the locals. If I wanted to eat at a chain I'd stick to the states. But there's something to be said about chains. Consistency. You know what to expect (for the most part). However when traveling and eating local, you run the risk of the unknown. Let me preface this by saying, I don't eat beef. Stopped about 15 years ago to lose weight only. Never had the urge to pick it up again. However my wife who does has filled me in, so I'll tell you here thoughts, and my thoughts based on what I DID eat. First off, the burger in my opinion (and my wife's) was pretty slim. When paying as much as you do for a burger here, you expect a huge thick piece of burger. That, it was not. Take two McDonalds patties, stick them together and that's what you get here with respect to size. But we were taken by the ULTIMATE BURGER sign. Grass-fed, check. All natural, check. Locally grown. Check! What we got was less of an ultimate burger, and more like a meh-it's-ok-burger. Service was slow. But that's OK when you're expecting something fresh right? Everyone gets a number. Yet everyone is ordering a burger since that's damn near all they have. Why did we get skipped? We were number 30, but saw 31 get served the exact same thing. A burger! We witnessed several other orders get messed up, forgotten about etc. So we inquired how much longer after waiting 20 minutes. We were then promptly brought out a burger. Probably someone else's. No worries. I ordered the fries which were supposed to be amazing according to everyone there (including patrons). Very very thin, string style fries with some seasoning atop. Again mediocre. The most interesting thing going on here was the chic at the counter. Tatted from head to toe. Literally. Piercings, blue or purple hair. Her look screams "I don't want to be like you, I'm different, I don't follow the rules". It actually screamed, I need and want attention among other things but she looked cool/different, so mission accomplished right? I'm talking about her right? Would we eat here again? No. Worth the price? No! The silver lining? The fresh squeezed lemonade was the shiznit!

We used the Yelp check in for a free Lemonade which was the best part of the meal. Also delicious were the fries and dipping sauce. The bun was great, but the burger was greasy and lacking in flavor the night I ate there. The staff was very friendly and prices affordable. I would try again and hope for a tastier burger.

Good food, and reasonably priced. Whenever we go to Hawaii we always try to find a burger place for lunch on our first day. It's kind of a tradition. Ultimate Burger had good food, service, and was priced right. Four of us were able to eat for about $40. Not sure what they put into the sauce that comes with the fries but it was great stuff. The only thing I didn't like was the small flies at the table outside the restaurant. They were annoying and made it hard to enjoy the meal.

3 words: LOVE THIS PLACE. My husband and I discovered Ultimate Burger on one of our trips to the island for pleasure (well if you call looking for a house pleasurable). We were starving and I had noticed a sign on their window (when driving by) about local beef, so it was extremely fitting for us, as we are pretty much food snobs and only want free range, grass fed, hormone/antibiotic free, organic, etc food. Upon entering the store, we noticed a fresh fish sandwich special (ahi). That was definitely my choice for lunch... it was DELICIOUS!!! My husband got the ultimate cheeseburger and loved that as well! The french fries are to die for!! Very fresh, awesome flavor and delicious aioli for dipping. My father came to visit us recently and my first thought when he arrived was "take him to Ultimate Burger!!!" which is a really convenient drive from the airport. We both got the special fish sandwich of the day (mahi mahi). Once again, Ultimate Burger did not disappoint. Their food is consistent and service is friendly. My father requested we return again, at which time their computers were down so things were a little hectic in there. However, during the madness, Kelly never wavered in his professionalism and friendly demeanor. He was greeting each customer, explaining the situation and doing everything he could to accommodate all the patrons. We felt extremely appreciated as loyal patrons and were impressed with how Kelly handled the situation. There is no doubt we will be back time and time again now that we officially reside here. Ultimate Burger is a super cute spot with a local draft beer, awesome local organic beef and to die for fries. Try the burgers but don't forget to try the fish special some time, their fish is AMAZING!!! Thank you Kelly & Ultimate Burger for being totally awesome!!!!

Went because of the good reviews, was disappointed. "Pink" burger is basically rare. Seasoning tasted like lawrys, meat was average. Fries are OK, but shoestring. Basically am average fast food burger for double or triple the price. If you want a double you have to pay for the full ultimate with all the toppings. My wife got sick from hers, which wasn't "pink". If you want a good burger this is not the place.

  • Andrea T.

Amazing!!! The best burger I have had. I got the ultimate burger with bacon!!! My husband got the ultimate burger with pineapple! It was sooo good. No mayonnaise or catsup needed. Not even on the fries. They have this amazing aioli sauce! All fresh and locally grown!! $25 for 2 burgers, 2 drinks and an order of fries!!! I will be back next time I visit the big island!

Context and Expectations are everything. Strip Mall, Looks a bit like a "Chain". Our expectations weren't high, so when you get a happy killer meal, served by people who care, it's a total bonus, right? Wife ordered the fresh fish sandwich. Cooked to perfection (meaning not overcooked). Served hot, and with a great sauce. I ordered the burger with onions, medium, and the burger was cooked to perfection. Juicy patty, wonderful bread, and awesome fries. Beer served with chilled glass. Not a typical "done it before" franchise - a place where they care about what they produce, and how they serve it. We'll be back many times in the future.

The day has finally come where Yelp has led me astray. I admit, being from Cali I am a spoiled little brat when it comes to delicious food with rivers of amazing burger joints all around me....and by this I am solely referring to the god given gift that is In n Out with their ambrosia dripping fries and meaty burgers and heavenly shakes and mmmmm...but i digress. My boyfriend and I were visiting Hawaii on our vacation and were craving some meaty juicy burgers and thought...a place called "Ultimate Burger" will most definitely supply us with our meaty needs. Alas, this place was not all it was cooked up to be. We were left feeling with a very...this was definitely cooked on a george foreman grill type of feeling. The meat wasn't juicy and tender, the fries were so-so and it was just overall very mehh. It just didn't leave the feeling of I gotta come back here and try the rest of their menu out. Sorry ultimate burger :(

Rating is based solely upon a person's previous experiences at other, potentially similar, eateries. That being the case, my initial impression that Ultimate Burger is not Village Burger (in Waimea), is unfortunately accurate. I had the cheese burger with bacon, the kids and wife had the kid's sliders, and we shared the fries. Overall the burgers were pretty good. Just not what I would consider excellent. My burger was ordered and done medium, and I appreciate when eateries get this right. Adding bacon is a no brainer, so of course it was bacon tastier. The kids thought the sliders were a bit small, but oh well. I think it did it's job, as it actually looked smaller because of diameter.....but the patty was fair in thickness. Good flavor overall, and the fries (sauce) were indeed good. Overall, I think it was a pretty good burger (just not quite up to Village Burger standard), but considering it is priced lower than VB, I'd say it was a fair value. Will go again should the need arise.

My husband and I went here for dinner our first day on the Island and we were blown away! The prices were a bit high, but whatever, we were on our honeymoon. The burger and fries were to DIE FOR... so delicious! I highly recommend this place for a great burger and fries.

Had the ahi burger, fries, and a longboard draft. Everything was great. Probably the best burger I've had. That means a lot being from Cali and having had five guys and inn and out. I'll definitely be back before I return home. Five stars all the way.

Went in around 7pm on Sunday to get take out. Place was busy, but not packed. Ordered 3 burgers each with different toppings, fries and a salad. The good: Easy to find. Pleasant order taker. Fresh ingredients. The bad: Placing an order took forever, presumably because there was a lot of stuff to enter into a computerized order system. If you're going to structure your menu around an a la carte burger + toppings system, please make the process fast and easy - the girl jabbed the screen so many times I wondered if she was typing out her grade 10 homework. We waited for 30 minutes to receive our food. Based on the plastic number they give you after you order, we were about third in the cook line to receive our food. I know fresh food takes time, but c'mon now. Food arrived on a tray, not in bags for take out. Fries missing. Oops. Take it back and stick it in a bag. Received food in bags, but the $4 "Big Daddy Ultimate Fries" were the same size as a medium fry from McD's. Slightly misleading. Tried one. Cold and soggy. Sitting for a while perhaps? Bonus: they gave us another bag once they notice our hungry, sad faces. Got home. Opened bags. All 3 burgers different than ordered, with a seemingly randomized set of toppings on each. Surprised? Not really. Mmmmm, a soggy pineapple cheddar bacon mushroom onion burger. Burger parties were themselves quality meat, but flame cooked almost beyond recognition. Very dry. Especially the one that I asked to be pink in the middle. It was kinda like today was opposite day at Ultimate (Wait) Burger. Two stars for the smile from the cashier, the fresh ingredients, and for how hard the incompetent staff was working.

Wow! On our last day on the Big Island we came across this gem! Avocado pineapple jalapeno burger and fries! The fries were really good so we had to order a second helping! The pineapple and jalapeno were a great combination and I highly recommend it for jalapeno lovers looking for a Hawaiian spin. Having the food be organic was definitely a plus!

I went here from the Yelp reviews. This is a nice burger place in an unexciting strip mall. The people are friendly and the burgers are good, but don't come close to what you get at Splasher's which has a great ocean view and much better atmosphere. At Splasher's, he people are friendly, the prices are better and the burgers are killer. If you are looking for a good burger in Kona, check out Splasher's. Update: Based on Windy's comments, I should add the fries, the dressing and the idea of the burgers all being from local ingredients are all plusses. Everyone is very friendly and it's a nice place, certainly worth visiting. As I noted, the burgers are good. We do however like Splashers for location and taste. I guess from where I come from we are used to frozen tasty food.

I'm from California. I'm used to cheap, delicious burgers like in n out. Unfortunately, I wasn't a fan of "grass fed beef", since it tastes very, very dirty. Mine was also over salty/seasoned, and for $10 I expected something a little better. The soda was half flat and their fountain was fairly dirty when I used it. They compensated me a beer since I didn't like the burger. The fries were mildly decent, but I probably would have gone across the street to McDonald's had I been asked again. Overall, it was "okay.", not something I would recommend if you don't like different tasting hamburger. Edit: I didn't mean to come off like the restaurant was bad, it really just isn't my flavor. The owner clearly cares about her customers and her restaurant, so that alone should be enough to try it out.

A diamond in the rough. You would not think as you pull into the Kona Commons parking lot and look around at Target, Ross, Sports Authority, Office Max, Mcdonalds, Panda Express, Subway, Taco Del Mar (whatever that is), Genki Sushi and a Dairy Queen; that in the middle of all this lies a well established yet little known restaurant serving up organic "of the earth" hamburgers and french fries. This is hands-down, the best burger of my life. Juicy grass fed beef grown right here on the big island cooked a perfect medium rare on my request. The fries remind me a lot of in-n-out except better! Lightly seasoned with organic thyme and parsley mmmmm good. The garlic aioli they serve with the fries is just an added bonus on this little trip to heaven. My wife had the fresh squeezed lemonade which was good, but $3 a cup and no refill :( Only downside to this place is a slim beer selection. Bud light & Longboard on draft so, of course, I went for the draft. 35 bucks for our meal, Ouch! Totally worth it though, can't wait to go back.

Delicious, completely fresh burgers of grass-fed, local beef grilled to perfection. The fries were amazing -- very flavorful and not one bit greasy. Their lemonade is freshly made and quite refreshing, or you can opt for the Kona Brewing Company ales. Better-than-alehouse quality food for quite reasonable prices. Ambience, not so much since it is located in a strip mall, but a great take out option for a picnic on the beach!

Burger had a funny taste....perhaps because it was grass fed????? (Hope that was it.) Fries were good. Overall a little pricey for what you got, and the seating area of this fast food restaurant should have been kept cleaner.

I like that Ultimate Burger sources their ingredients locally, including 100% grass fed local beef. I like that the restaurant has a nice atmosphere, is well decorated and that they have a professionally designed menu and tasteful graphics. They have a great website, excellent menu items and are conveniently located in town. I really, really want to love this restaurant. The food is just so very average that I cannot see myself returning.

Yummy! Burgers were so good ate there two times during our visit to the Big Island. Burger was really tasty, with fresh toppings and soft Hawaiian roll bun. Dipping sauce for fries was delish. Folks that waited on us were very friendly and helpful too.

Being from Chicago, I know a good burger from a bad one. Pricey, but everything is organic, so, how can I blame them? Fries were mediocre, but whatever, I focused on the burger. It was great. It ranks among the top 10 burgers I have in my life. Unique taste, but don't let that throw you off. It's still really good. Everything tasted fresh. If I am ever back in Kona again, I will without a doubt come back. And thanks to the friendly cashier.

  • ralph d.

This is a tough one. This place should have 2.5 stars. Food in Kona is generally so bad that anything decent should be praised. The burger would have been better if it was not already "pre-spiced" with who knows what and a lot of garlic. So the taste of garlic actually IN the meat was just too much and reminded me of sausage. If they offered it as an option that would have been better. The funny thing with grass fed beef you should only need some salt and pepper to make it perfectly flavorful. The beer for $4.00 was a really small glass. That was a rip off. If you want pickles on a kids burger "that costs extra". They need to add a simple non-spiced 1/2 pound burger not a 1/3 or 2/3 pound garlic burger. They should drop the cowboy hats and pick up a mop or two and clean the floors while they are rethinking their pricing and policies.

  • Karen L.

I thought the burger was just ok. The aoili sauce was really good but I dunno... The burger just didn't hit the spot like most burgers do. Maybe it was too lean... Too organic..... Does all the steroids and crap make regular burgers taste extra good? No idea... Maybe it was too healthy for my palate. I do have to say I ate the burger about 20 mins later. Maybe it would've been better if I ate it immediately... The fries looked good but I didn't get it - dammit.

Had lunch there yesterday...fries were good, as usual...the burger...the classic cheese...was very good but had way too much sauce...gooey burgers are not that appealing to me...still a good burger stop.

Delicious and smoky. Nice that it features local produce. I liked the seasoned fries and the aioli dip. For KOna this is the best burger joint. If you don't mind driving to waimea Village burger is much better and you can get a real milkshake. Also they use local produce and the products was design by a chef with experience in high end local resort hotel. Don't miss the strawberry shake!

Great burgers! You can actually taste that it is fresh, local meat. I recommend adding mushrooms, avocado and onions, but I bet there are other great combinations to be made. We also enjoyed their fries with Aioli sauce and our son finished his slider. Quite an accomplishment for a three year old. The burgers don't come cheap, but we definitely enjoyed them. Only down side where some Mosquitos in the kids play area close to the soda machine.

This is a delicious burger joint, with local ingredients (including beef). The lemonade is also fantastic. We had a few great meals here while on vacation. To top it off, the ridiculous uniforms make it a fun time for the kids.

I love knowing the food is local and fresh. The burgers were great, fresh and juicy with a yummy sauce. The kids had sliders that were only $3 a piece. The fries were fresh and slightly crispy-my favorite.

I was so happy to have found this local gem. The place feels like an upscale fast-food take-out but with a family/local feel to it. I'm a vegetarian so I went with the mushroom burger and I was so happy to see carmelized onions on top. It was served on their fresh baked brioche bun and came with lettuce and a huge slice of tomato. My friend ordered the burger and was happily munching away with a big smile and crumbs on his face. I heard a rumor that they're opening one on Oahu and I couldn't be happier. Would definitely send friends here for a good burger. Oh yeah, the french fries were perfect and the aioli was delicious. Ono indeed!

Awesome burgers at reasonable prices especially for Hawaii. Also very good fries. Just really tasty beef with really good good condiments. It is in a shopping center so dont expect anything fancy but its perfect for the kids because a few doors down there is a dairy queen for a yummy dessert. I highly recommend it even if its a bit of a drive away.

WOW -- we came in hoping for greatness and left extremely satisfied. The burger was fantastic, full of flavor, fresh ingredients and the bun was amazing. The fries and burgers are fantastic. Fresh produce that really does make a huge difference. Very clean, inviting place. It was the best meal I had. It is not fast food so don't expect it to cost the same!!! Still it is priced well for what you get.

We wandered into this place for a quick burger, and were pleasantly surprised! The quality of the beef was outstanding. It's local, grass-fed beef, and our burgers were cooked medium-rare. The flavor of the beef was better than any Angus beef I've had on the Mainland, period. The fries were delicious, as well. From the looks of the customers, the locals like this place as well. I will definitely eat here again!

Now that's a tasty burger. I would recommend this place to any "foodie" looking for a burger. This place isn't cheap however and one should prepare to spend near the 15 dollar mark per adult. It pains me to say this but it is sooo much better than In-n-Out.

Home of the best sign waver in Kona! If you have seen this guy you know what I am talking about. Old dude working the sign with such enthusiasm you have to wonder if he is either crazy or the owner. I think I solved the mystery when I finally ate here and saw him enjoying a beer. He's the "Will work for beer" guy! On to the other stuff. I am trying to eat healthier these days and have looked lustingly at UB from afar but could no longer suppress my primal urge for beef and took the GF and kids to UB on Labor Day. The place was packed and kind of loud so it was very hard to hear the order takers shpeel when I told him this was the first time eating there. There might have been good advice given but I couldn't hear a thing. Got the cheese burger (Swiss) with avocado and fries to split with GF. Big brownie points for serving beer! More brownie points for having HD TV's showing the Boise State Virginia Tech game! GF was pissed because I make a bee line home after grinding to watch the rest of the game. The burger was very tasty. Great meat patty that looked home made hanging over the sides of the bun. Cheese and avocado were perfect. Fries were great, crispy with the best dip. I split the burger with GF but still felt stuffed and guilty for having a grease-fest. Here's why the two star ding. The place was full so we grabbed two tables that just emptied. Garbage from previous guest still on the table. Beer is delivered to garbage ridden table with no effort to clean. Fries come with same result. Burgers come and the guy tries to bail without cleaning the old food off the table so I had to ask if he could clean up the table. Man you would have though I asked him to loan me money. This really ruined it for us. So note to owner: The dude with the scruff beard is really blowing it for an otherwise great product.

This is the second time I've eaten here. I'd like to give more stars but the food is just ok, its not great... and the value sucks. Its expensive... anything extra on the burger and you are looking at a $10 burger without fries and a drink. They have some strangely seasoned fries that are a few bucks. Wouldn't pay extra for them again unless they came unseasoned and they actually gave you $3 worth of fries. Food tastes ok, I'd give it 3 stars. Employees nice - 4 stars. But value wise, prices are too steep, that gets 1 stars. Overall rating... 2.5 stars. Make sure you get kama'aina disc.

After passing the guy on the street corner waving the sign many times, we gave into his shakas and decided to give it a try. Ultimate Burger reminds me of a Hawaiian version of 5 Guys/the Counter. The burger was delish, I got the cheeseburger with gorgonzola and sauteed mushrooms (extra charge). My bf and I also got an order of fries to share. You order at the counter and they bring it to your table. This place has a glam cowgirl motif. The food comes out piping hot, maybe a little too hot at times. The burger was juicy and tasty. The fries are garlicky and the aioli complements it perfectly.

  • Michele R.

I really like the dipping sauce for the very thin fries. But I won't be eating there anymore. I like the "idea" of eating grass fed beef, but in reality I don't much care for the grassy taste. Wish I could say different. I much prefer the Kobe beef burger at Village Burger in Waimea. :\

  • Cesar T.

We really love the food here. The burgers are fresh and the food is consistently good. However if you are on a budget perhaps a trip to Wendy's is in order. We are a family of 4 and when we eat there we are paying about $51.00 for 4 burgers, 4 orders of fries and 4 drinks. If you don't mind paying more it is worth a trip.

In my neighborhood back home in Colorado, there is a kid I see every day standing on the street corner, with a goofy hat, holding a "sandwich and wings sign," dancing and waving, and I want to run him over. So, now that I'm on vacation, I saw a kid holding a sign for a restaurant and waving, and I was filled with similar feelings of rage. However, my boyfriend was haunted by the tantalizing promise of local grass fed Hawaiian beef, and for days he would quietly murmur, "local burgers, hmm." We gave in and went yesterday. I was skeptical because when it advertises "local" fish, I don't think there should be quotation marks around "local." Plus it's in a strip mall. Turns out the french fries are amazing. They are thin and crispy, and have some green herb on them that is delicious. They serve it with garlic aoli, and I am worried that after this vacation I will be addicted to mayo what with all the macaroni salad and musubi that goes on here. I got the "local" fish burger, which really was local, and was perfectly grilled Ono. It's a little spendy - one Ono burger, one double decker beef burger, add avocados, side of fries = $26. Ouch. Since it tasted so good, we left full and happy, and the price was no longer an issue. I wonder if I found the best fries in the area on my first try...

I have to say that this is one tasty burger with an excellent balance of flavors! This place is a must stop whenever we are in Kailua-Kona. I like the fact that most everything is locally produced, from the range fed local beef to the artisan baked brioche buns and the organically produced local veggies! It sure beats some of those higher-priced, celebrity chef-produced burgers here in Honolulu! Even my wife, who is not a big burger fan has to have an Ultimate Burger when we're in Kona.

This is not my first grass fed beef experience where I've asked - where's the flavor? So I'm not sure if it's the beef's fault or Ultimate Burger's preparation of the meat is at fault. When I ordered the 1/3 lb burger at other joints the patty is super thin so at Ultimate I ordered the double 2/3 lb with cheese. I requested that the meat be cooked medium rare. What I got was this massive burger, I think the meat is so lean that there is no fat rendered out of the patties. The burger was so wet I had to eat it with a fork since the bottom bun was soaked through with burger juice. The meat was mushy and flavorless. I couldn't tell if it needed salt and pepper or just more char on the outside of the meat. The burger seemed to have a thin smear of the same aioli sauce that is served with the fries. Otherwise there were packets of ketchup or a bottle of hot sauce that you could use to dress your burger. No mustard or relish in sight, I assume this is deliberate so you're forced to enjoy the burger the way it's intended. Amazingly I was not full after eating this massive burger, again I think because the meat is so lean. The meat is so finely ground too that you hope to stumble upon a little gristle to give the burger some texture. I applaud Ultimate Burger's efforts to support local farmers but the flavor falls short for my tastes. The staff is very friendly though.

Great gourmet burgers. Lots of options. Local beef. Good buns. Excellent garlic fries. Sour fresh squeezed lemonade. Delicious root beer floats. A higher end burger joint.

My favorite part is walking into the restaurant to see the photos of the local farms where they get their ingredients. They make a good burger and I love their fry sauce.

Have to say this IS the BEST burger I have ever had. The only negative I could say is that I do not have an Ultimate Burger in my town (hint hint). Fresh, cooked to order, GREAT toppings, just delicious. Wasn't too impressed with the island of Hawaii but I may go back just to get this burger. THANKS!

After reading all the great reviews, we stopped here right after arriving in Kona. The burgers were not good. My fish burger was in tiny bits and kept falling out of the bun. The beef was not anything special and had this horrible creamy sauce on it. The fries were so thin that after a few minutes they became hardened to a crisp and stale. Compared to burger places in the Bay Area, this place is a must-NOT.

Had the cheddar onion bacon burger. The bacon wasn't noticeable, tomato mushy, and they charged extra for onions! Burger was good but smaller than before. For a 10 dollar burger they should include the fries! I believe it was better before, not worth the cost.

This is an AMAZING burger joint! Can't beat that it's grass fed beef and that all the ingredients are fresh. The fries are to die for and we also learned that it's owned by a fellow chicagoan so that made my husband and I love it even more! Definite must try when you go to the big island! :)

The fresh and local ingredients they advertise definitely shine in their burgers. It's a gourmet burger without the gourmet price. The Fries are amazing. Perfectly crispy with the BEST DIPPING SAUCE EVER!!!! Next time I'm in Hawaii you can bet I'll be pit stopping there for some juicy fun on a bun and a side a fries.

I normally avoid anything that says they promote Organic anything because it usually isn't good quality and is against my principles of growing healthy sustainable food with conventional farming. But, we had to fly out shortly and needed a quick bite and I'm not a fan of the other chain restaurants nearby. The cashier was very friendly and turns out she is from a small town about an hour from where I live in Idaho. The burger was very good, I got the cheeseburger with american and caramelized onions. It was juicy and the tomato was ripe and had great flavor. The french fries were very good with all the seasoning and then having the aioli sauce was a bonus! I also had a glass of their fresh squeezed lemonade and it was some of the best I've ever had. If you're looking for a burger, this is the place to try. **I don't know that the sign guy really helps especially when the main thing you notice is ORGANIC in big letters. Maybe a sign more about the food quality itself would be better.

For a quick burger place, they had really good food. Had a fish burger that was amazing. Fries very good too. Was a little suspicious of a place that hires a guy to stand on the side of the highway waving around a sign but it was worth it. I'd definitely go back there for a decently priced casual meal.

  • Jennie M.

Good juicy burger with a nice fresh bun, I usually do a hamburger but will sometimes calorie splurge on a cheeseburger with mushrooms. The fries and the aioli are killer - enough to split between two people if you are light eaters. The chill is tasty if you are not craving a burger and want something a bit warm. Sometimes I wish they served milkshakes but at least you have the option of a nice cold beer.

Omg. Burger was sooooo good!! I added the grilled onion and jalapeños to mine and the balance of the sweet of the grilled onion with the spicy jalapeño was devine. The burger was not over done, and seasoning was just delicious. Bun was soft, it was just a fabulous burger! The fries are to die for! Home cut right from the potatoes and shoestring width to match! Delicious plain or dipped in their secret sauce! Highly recommend!!

It took 25 minutes to get four burgers and one basket of fries. I tried to order a fish sandwich, but they were out. The ketchup bottle was empty. Tables full of trash. We arrived early at 5:50 pm and it was too busy for the staff to handle though there were empty tables. I had two pieces of gristle in my burger. It was hotter inside the restaurant than outside and it was easily 94 F outside. Avoid this place if you want a cool place to eat, unpretentious food, or don't want to wait 25 minutes for an overcooked gristle burger. If you're looking for a burger at place other than McDonald's, don't bother stopping here. Plenty of other places in Kona.

I always love great burger joints and Ultimate Burger is definitely at the top of my list! The burgers are always fresh and the fries are so addicting! Kona finally has a quality burger establishment and I will forever be a loyal customer.

Ultimate burger is amaaaaazing! I got a ultimate hamburger with avocado and bacon. First bite I took I cried tears of joy because it's just that GOOD! This is the place you should go whenever you feel like pigging out. French fries are DOPE! I love you ultimate burger!

I love this place! Every time I'm on the Big Island, I go to this place several times. Yesterday, I had the kimchee burger. It included kimchee, jalapeños, and Muenster cheese. I also tried a locally brewed kombucha drink they were offering that was delicious. I watch carbs, and they never blink if I ask them to hold the bun. A few days ago, I had the Ahi burger. It was cooked just right- not overlooked and still a bit pink in the middle. Ask for the siracha aioli! It pairs well with everything, including the ahi burger! I always get sautéed mushrooms and avocado on the side, too.

Ono burger. Good quality. We went here first when it first opened 4 years ago or so. The burger a little pricey, therefore the 4 stars. Local guys like me cannot eat here every day. Only in special occasions with my keikis. Meal for 4 $45. Eaters beware. Mahalo nui

Surprisingly good. Stopped by this place on the way back from the beach. Had the cheeseburger and fries.. Didn't even need to put any condiments on it. 5 stars!

One of the best burgers in Kona! All natural burgers done right plus the fries. Order at counter, then grab a seat and they'll bring out your food when its ready. Try their home made lemonade, all this for $12.50.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but this is the best burger I have ever eaten!! I wanted a mushroom burger but they were out of mushrooms. Something I'm finding out happens frequently in Hawaii. So I had avocado and Swiss. The bun is soft and buttery and yummy. My husband didn't t like the soft bun because it got soggy. The fries and special sauce were also amazing!! Very thin sliced and herb seasoned. Yumo! The strawberry lemonade was average but good. This was a great find on the Big Island!

Of course for my 200th review, I'd pick a burger joint to review and an excellent burger joint at that! The menu is very simple and straight forward. You pick a burger. You pick your toppings. You have the options of also getting fries and or housemade chili. You really should get the fries. They are crispy and are sprinkled with thyme and kosher salt. They are cooked to order and served within aioli sauce. The burger itself is juicy and doesn't have that over charred taste like some burger places have. It's main star is the grass fed Big Island beef so it has a distinctly different taste that's good! The toppings are organic and locally grown, so everything taste fresh. The bun is soft and sweet and it soaks just enough of the juices and fat from the beef without making the bun fall apart. (It was so good, I was a bit of a glutton and got two!) The place is awesome because you can also order local beer! If you're not in the mood for a burger (why would you come here otherwise?), there is also the option a of other sandwiches including a fish sandwich and mushroom sandwich. It's too bad this place isn't on my home island, but then again that might be a good thing for my waistline!

  • Danielle L.

If you are in the mood for a burger you probably won't find better in Kona. The local meat is tasty and fresh local ingredients. I have been to many hamburger places and living in Hawaii makes me miss mainland burgers in the northwest. Though I have been to Hudsons hamburgers in Idaho and think it's the best burgers in at least 5 states. I also still crave some Zips from Eastern Washington, but since I live here in Kona when I need a hamburger fix this is where you'll find me.

Terrific tasting burger with fresh lettuce, tomato, cheese, pickle, and unique sauce produce THE ulimate burger, which tourists like me appreciate very much. Fries great too to share!

  • Lelani V.

Getting a jump start toy new addiction by yelping local businesses. This place is great food but a bit pricey but I understand being on an island it is not easy finding ingredients that easy. I had the triple decker and a basket of fries. They do have wonderful Mauna Kea iced tea. Reminds me of when I was little with my pappy on our porch back in the state. My only complaint is the prices but is worth the money

Best and healthiest cheeseburger in town. We drove an hour away to come here. It was totally worth it. The fries are to die for and the meat was absolutely delicious. We were greeted by so many kind workers, everyone was so lovely and kind to us. I wish we had one of these California! Grace and kelly were amazing, they made sure our burgers were made exactly the way we wanted!! Best burger joint ever!!

  • RC S.

Delicious burgers made with local, grass-fed beef. Wonderful smoky grilled flavor. Happily, they ask whether or not you want any pink in your burger -- we didn't, and the burgers were still tender and juicy. We also tried the seared ahi burger, which provided a nice counterpoint to the hamburger. But if you are only going to order one or the other, definitely go with the grass-fed beef burger.

  • Ron H.

All the food was great, we had burgers, fries and the fish sandwich, everyone thought the food was excellent. We went back a few days later, ordered extra fries that day.

  • Florence K.

I still think about Ultimate Burger's burger. It was probably one of the best burgers I've ever had. The menu is simple, but I really enjoy that, so I can have my burger exactly the way I want it, instead of having it like other places where I'm looking back and forth between certain exactly what each of the burgers contain...and trying to see which is the best, since I don't like some of the ingredients. Ultimate cheeseburger with 100% local Big Island grass fed beef, medium done ness, with avocado and mushrooms? Yes, please! Let's add some of their fresh cut fries to that too! The seasoning they add on to it makes it way more freakin delicious. Didn't see my check in offer for a free lemonade with purchase, but I know for next time, if I ever make it to Kona! Honestly, Ultimate Burger is the best food joint in the strip mall area it's in. I finished my meal completely stuffed. I usually don't finish my burgers, but I just couldn't put it down! I didn't want my burger to get cold, and have myself eat a sad, cold burger later that night, or a reheated burger that just wouldn't be as juicy! Not the greatest idea, since I was stuffed right before I started work. Next time I come to Kona, this is my first stop!

Only bad thing about this place. We found out about it on our last day. Burgers are REAL and great. Must try the fries.

  • Kristen C.

So here's the thing....perhaps on the island this place is amazing by comparison but I haven't compared it with other burgers on the island. That said, the burgers were mediocre. Why 2 stars and not 3? Well, because 3 of 4 burgers were not cooked as ordered. Why ask "pink or no pink" if the cooks completely ignore the answer? Nice and friendly staff, cute decor but I'd rather have better than average food prepared as requested.

  • Rachel S.

This was the best burger I had on the island, not that I had a lot of burgers, but it was really tasty. We wandered in a few minutes before closing time without realizing it and instead of shooing us out they insisted that we order and that we weren't a bother at all. They were really helpful when it came to placing our orders and we got it to go so they'd be able to get out of there sooner. The burger was juicy and flavorful and they'll cook it to whatever temp you prefer. I think I would have gotten it without the avocado next time (just my preference). They do have a lot of interesting add ons and they are all fresh ingredients. The fries were good and the sauce that came with them was even better, tangy with a lot of pow to the flavor. AND if the customer service and great food wasn't enough I got a free lemonade for checking in on Yelp!!

Their Burgers are enhanced with soft fresh buns, fresh sweet tomatoes and crispy lettuce. Cheese and bacon added touch if desired. Shoestring fries are tasty, service is polite and fast. Great place for a quick and tasty lunch!

Burger is a good size, but I did not enjoy the taste or texture. For one, I think the burger is too lean, so it has a dense, vaguely rubbery texture. I feel like if I dropped it, it would bounce on the floor. The smoke/charbroil flavor is far too thick as well, and becomes nauseating very quickly. I could still taste it in my mouth well after I left - a good 15 minutes or so. I almost wonder if they're just using liquid smoke (aka smoked wood chips and water) to get that flavor... Others are right about the buns too: they fall apart WAY too fast and don't seem to be toasted or anything to help stand up to the burger, especially if you get anything more than a single. I got a double with no cheese, and the buns were a gross slimy mess by the time I was only half way through. Toppings and fries were great, though overpriced. I suppose that's island life. I hate mayo personally, so the fry sauce was disgusting to me. If you like mayo, you'll probably like it though. Get bottled water, since island water is kinda gross. Girls were super friendly, but to busy conversing among themselves to care about much else. THE VERDICT: If you think this is the best burger you've ever had, I feel a bit sorry for you guys.

    (2)
  • Andrea V.

I love their burgers so much... super fresh ingredients. I'd love this place even more if they had a nice location (AKA not in a strip mall), but oh well. I guess you go, eat and THEN go to a scenic spot. And their fries? Well, I have dreams about those!

Maybe the best fish sandwich I've ever had. The ahi was fresh, rare, and delicious, along with the Brioche bun and Sriracha sauce. The kids got sliders and could tell the quality of meat was better than what they were used to.

Service was cool. They got all 3 burgers wrong.. I ordered my burger well done and it was blood still coming out when I bit into it. I almost threw up on sight. We spent 50 bucks here. Its just crszy how ppl give u what you want and not what you order. Pissed. My first and last time here. Fuk

Great place if you're looking for a good burger! The double decker is amazingly messy, so much cheese. I had to use a fork half way and I don't use forks. This place was definitely worth the price. The sauce that comes with the fries is addictive too. Must try!

  • Jennifer M.

Yummy! Our second time here. Grass fed burgers are much tastier than our local spots: In N Out burgers and The Habit Burgers. The fries with aoli sauce are delicious. We are spoiled for the taste of local produce and meat!

  • Sherron B.

It took us quite some time to try Ultimate Burger, because .... well, we don't eat meat. But we walked by and saw their sign for local fresh ahi fish burgers and so we figured we'd give it a try. We ordered both the fish burger and their mushroom burger, along with a side of fries and their lemonade. We were more than happy with all of it, but the mushroom burger was a little sloppy & hard to eat. I was picking up fallen mushrooms off the plate and scoffing them down. BUT they were very tasty, very flavorful, just very downright good! So was the ahi burger and the fish was prepared just right, moist and not overcooked. Also loved the tasty buns, delicious crispy-crunchy fries, and lemonade (tasty but not overly sweet like most places). They are also very good about ordering items without salt or whatever else. That's because it is all made to order, so they can do that. It's something we appreciate a lot. We also thought the prices were appropriate for the quality of the food. We sat outside and enjoyed our meal while watching an egret rooting for something to eat in the landscaping. Very pleasant, very good food, and now a "burger joint" is on our list of great places to eat! ヅ

We went for lunch on a Sunday, Dads day. Burgers were not huge, very well priced with delicious (add'l price) toppings. I had the portobello burger, no sauce, and it came with sweet caramelized onions. I added on beet kraut. It had fine chunks of garlic. Son had burger with avocado add on - small portion of that. He loved the burger sauce. Hubs had burger with homemade pickled jalapeño and Swiss. All came with fresh butter lettuce, tomato, onion of desired. We ordered the big daddy fries-small portion! Some soggy. They gave us a free drink for Father's Day and we had a yelp checkin for another leaving our bill to $32. All in all, a great place in Kailua-Kona!

Great service from the moment you enter the restaurant. I usually go into a burger restaurant and just judge the quality of the burger without expecting anything more. Our part was greeted the moment we walked into the door, the Asian looking gal smiled and seemed excited and friendly. I placed the order and was given a lucky number, their way of calling out your order number. The burger was delicious as were their fries. It wasn't too greasy and it was a decent size. Lots of good meat juices collected at the bottom of the tray, which is a good sign if you are into juicy and moist burgers. Their sauce in their burger was not overwhelming and still allowed me to savor the individual flavors of the burger. It was a good mix, slightly toasted and pink just like I ordered. The string fries looked amazing and tasted as promising as it looked. Back to the service. After being brought the food, the gal asked me if she could get me anything else and told us to enjoy our meal. The cashier came out later to tidy up and asked us how we liked our food after we settled in and started eating. Not long after, we were checked in by the first gal again in how we were enjoying everything and asked if there is anything she could do or she could get for us. I was thrown off guard and didn't expect this level of service at a burger joint. I am impressed and felt really comfortable with how welcomed I was. The burgers there are great but it is the service that will keep me going back.

This burger here tasted like a burger I'd grill on the BBQ at home with some freshly ground high quality beef. The flavor was excellent. The fresh baked bun and signature sauce complimented the patty nicely. The fries also, were great. Interesting Aoli to dip them in. Service was fine, no issues and the wait time was no prob. For that type of burger I'd gladly wait a little longer for it to be cooked.

Located in a strip mall, my husband, friends and I were skeptical about the fantastic reviews about this establishments burgers. However, we all enjoyed our late lunch burgers and fries. I savored my burger with the Gruyere swiss and grilled pineapple. Someone in our party happily finished his ahi, which was the fish of the day. My husband and I shared the thin cut fries, which required salt but was otherwise satisfyingly crisp. I thought the aioli that came with the fries could have been more tasty if it were a little more tart or hot; it was just creamy and boring, but nevertheless, the fries themselves didn't need much saucing up. The attendant behind the register was also super patient and friendly; we took our time deciding on what to order and she was so gracious with us. Finally, checking in with the Yelp app gets one a free lemonade!

Worst worst worst food in Hawaii. Was a customer but it's been terrible the last two years. Always out of fish (on an island?) and there is no way the beef is local. Tastes imported from someplace on the mainland. Yuck.

Surprisingly good burgers here. I actually thought it was a chain like Fatburger (apologies to the owner!), until I saw the website. Parking is available in the strip mall out front. They advertised live music, but maybe that's later in the day. The burgers are a bit pricey. Not so much for the base, but once you start adding options, it adds up really quickly. The $4 fries are one of the better ones I've had for sure, so give this a try if you don't spending a few bucks more. The other thing I really liked here is that avocado is available as a topping. Yum! Guess we really fluked out by encountering this restaurant. Recommended.

Not a bad place for a very good burger. Located within a strip mall next to a Sports Authority, across from a Target store. It's in a great location to get foot traffic. The burger itself, mind you I didn't go fancy on this, just a straight up plain hamburger with no cheese. Starting off, it was a good ground of meat. Nicely rough ground, almost chunky. The flavor of the meat was very good, much like a good rib-eye. The bun very soft. Reminded me of the buns used in an in-n-out burger though larger. The veggies were crisp and ample. Nothing too much, or too little. Oh and they serve beer! For a very well done burger, you cannot go wrong here.

Local, fresh, organic are three words to live by while in Hawai'i. Solid spot overall for burgers and fries. I think the garlic fries and fresh lemonade were the standout items on the menu. A few suggestions for the owners, onion rings?, condiments on the table?, milkshakes?

  • Robyn R.

The ahi fish sandwich was fresh & delicious! Burger, grass fed and perfectly grilled was very good too. We got it with onions & mushrooms. Fries & sauce were yummy! Brittany an assistant manager told us a lot about the company & where many of the ingredients come from. We'll eat here again & look up the sister restaurant when we're home in So Cal.

Very, very good. My mostly veg wife even got a cheeseburger with shrooms and raved about it. My kids are loyalists to Smashburger and we are 2 for 3 on the local superiority. Annie's is definitely cooler with a better, more distinctive atmosphere, but at 50% higher price,my vote says the name is well-deserved, here. Probably my all-time favorite burger.

The burger had a wonderful beef flavor, and the avocado was super fresh. The fries are clearly home made. Fast food doesn't get any better. The lemonade was expensive, but overall I was very pleased with my lunch.

Absolutely amazing! I had the Sweet Mona special! Whoever thought to put grilled strawberries on a burger is a genius! Delicious! The beef was flavorful and melted in your mouth! And the fries were perfectly cut and crispy! YUMMY! We will be coming back here next time we're in Kona! Service was great...staff was helpful and friendly!

Tourist trap, avoid it !! I was falsely excited after reading the reviews to eat their burgers, but they are really mediocre at the best, over hyped, nothing special, pass it and you will be very happy, go and eat here and you will regret it, except for the girl taking the order every other guy in there is sulking and rude, who wants that on vacation ?

  • Issac M.

Surprisingly excellent. It's a shame you go to an island and can't find a good plate of food until you go back to the basics. LOVED their food. Prices are decent too. Like a glorified in-n-out.

Cheeseburger, fries and pop is $13. Serving sizes are modest, but sufficient. Taste is reasonable. Far from ultimate, but nice taste. My family also tried the veggie burger. It was tasty but nothing special. The best part of the meal was the fries. This little place has a limited menu, so only come here if you want a burger. You order at the counter and find a table. We noticed many tables left dirty for extended periods and the floor felt dirty under foot. Overall, I have no desire to return. If this is boutique or " mom and pop", then give me red robin or Cheesecake Factory anytime over this place!

8/2/12 5 stars. Fresh, quick and reasonably priced. Nice fresh brioche rolls, fresh beef and fresh cut fries. The atmosphere is not much different than a run of the mill fast food shop (it's in a strip mall, across a major street from Target and McDonalds) but thats where the similarity ends. All local ingredients cooked to order and served up fast.

Sometimes the problem with Organic Hippie Burger joints like this one, is that they take it one step too far and try to make it too healthy. I loved everything about the burger, except the actual burger. Ultimate Burger is all about supporting local businesses. They even have photos on the wall of the baker who makes their buns and the farmers who grow their organic produce. Their beef is grass fed, Big Island raised, and as fresh as can be. Problem is, it's way too lean for my taste. Even though I had it medium rare and the burger was still pink, it was on the dry side. I also wasn't that keen on their seasonings. You don't need to do a lot with a burger, just some salt and pepper and a good fat content will go a long way. However this was still a 4 star burger. They have a wall of fame here for finishing the Ultimate TKO Burger. It's 4 1/3 lb burgers and 4 slices of cheese. I've eaten a 1lb burger before, what's another 1/3lb? But as I looked on the wall of fame, there must have been like 200 photos on there, so I'm not sure it's really that special of an accomplishment. I wisely declined the challenge the way an enlightened kung fu master would decline a silly bar fight and ordered the ultimate double decker cheese burger. These aren't cheap burgers and your base price is only the starting point. If you enjoy toppings on your burger, they can add up quick. Without really thinking I had them add avocado, sauteed mushrooms, caramelized onions, and smoked applewood bacon. Suddenly a $10 burger can become a $16 burger if you aren't careful. yelp.com/biz_photos/OH0b… The toppings stole the show, especially the sauteed mushrooms. They do a mushroom sandwich that i bet is just killer. When you get great quality mushrooms cooked perfectly, they can take on the texture of filet mignon. The Applewood bacon had just the right amount of smokey flavor that you would expect from a good quality bacon. The lettuce is hand torn. Yes they actually tell you that. Does it affect the taste? I just thought it was a funny piece of information. The tomatoes were nice and red. The raw onion sliced thin. I also had caramelized onions which added a lot of flavor and buttery taste. Good quality perfectly ripe avocado as well. The brioche bun was very fresh and baked with love. It was toasted first and held everything together nicely. I can't tell you much about their ultimate sauce. In fact I thought they served the burger dry until I later reread their menu. It's either non-descript or they forgot to put it on. I just grabbed some ketchup and used that. I would ask for an extra side of ultimate sauce to see what it's all about. Maybe I missed an important flavor of this burger. The ultimate fresh cut fries were 5 stars. These things were so perfectly cooked and seasoned. They are using fresh herbs, chopped up and sprinkled all over the fries. A perfect blend of thyme, parsley, and kosher salt. It's what a roasted potato would taste like if it were in french fry form. We got 2 orders and they generously piled them on, creating a bridge of fries from one boat to the other. They are served with a side of garlic aioli. The dipping sauce was good, but not needed. I didn't want to cover up the delicious flavor of the fries too much. I also enjoyed their home made lemonade. Made with organic Hawaiian sugar cane. I put it on my organic napkin, so I didn't get organic condensation all over the organic table. yelp.com/biz_photos/OH0b… Also of note - they are opening a Santa Monica location in November. Since they are all about supporting fresh local businesses, I wonder if they are going to have any ties to the Hawaiian location. We'll have to wait and find out.

Don't hesitate on this one. Delicious! Got a cheeseburger w/normal toppings and a side of fries. Portions were perfect; plenty but not gut-busting. Service was terrific and the place was clean and pleasant. Beef was obviously fresh and had a very "this is good beef" taste to it, if that makes any sense. Sauce on the burger was awesome. Fresh lettuce that didn't overwhelm the burger (I'm looking at you, In-n-out...). Pickles were great, onions were thin cut which is how I like 'em. Bun was toasted on the inside, but still soft on the outside. Really just a superb burger (and for $6.99!) Fries were seriously spectacular, and the dipping sauce was ah-maze-ing. There was enough in one order for two of us to share. Summary of my feelings: Why must I live thousands of miles away?

First of all, DON'T be comparing this burger to In-N-Out, cuz you don't know what the heck your talking about!! Nothing spectacular except it might be the only decent burger on the island unless if you love Mcdonalds. Are you kidding me, $7.99 for a cheeseburger?! if you want extra items its $1/item. By the time you know it's, its $12 burger w/o fries! Coming from a city where umami burger, the counter, and 50/50 slaters, i might be a little too particular with burger, but for it to get this many stars on yelp. It a complete most utter joke.

We enjoy the local, grass fed burgers 2 - 3 times a week while vacationing in Kona. This is one of the two best burger places we've found. The burgers are all great (yes, I've had them all), and the fries are delicious too. The burgers keep well in the fridge if you can't finish in one sitting, so I recommend ordering aggressively. The service is not super efficient, so add in some extra time for that if you're on a tight schedule. When we've ordered over the phone they did not start to make the burgers until we arrived, so no joy there. That said, it's a small price to pay for a great meal. Just plan on waiting no matter what. Also, why are you on a tight schedule in Kailua-Kona? The pineapple is a nice addition to a burger, which my 8-year old loves. The caramelized onions are also quite yummy. Consider skipping the kids slider and just getting a burger instead if your child is hungry.

Grabbed a few burgers here with the family today. We also had two baskets of their fries and a pitcher of "Longboard" a local beer. I love the all natural, local beef, local business aspect of the place. The owners, managers and staff take great pride in this place and it shows. If you have never had grass fed beef you are in for a unique treat. This is probably one of the healthiest burgers you can eat.

Best burger ive found on the big island. Burgers are proportioned just right, lettuce, onion, meat, bread, cheese, pickles, tomato were all the perfect amount so they compliment each other not over power each other. The fries were super dank (good) when dipped in their special sauce, and i mean ultra super dank but i did add some salt... best of all, pretty much all their ingredients are local and organic, besides the potatoes im guessing. Service was good not excellent, cute chick taking orders was really nice, but the dude who brought my food out said nothing when i thanked him for it, but in his defense it was right before closing and he was probably cooking all day...

My boyfriend and I ate here last week as we were wandering around Kona, stumped on where to grab a bite. We saw a sign waver on the street advertising local & grass fed burgers. Don't mind if we do! We promptly turned in and headed to try out this snazzy burger joint. Now, I am paleo and my boyfriend is not. So, I ordered a burger with lettuce subbed for the bun, with bacon and pineapple. He ordered a regular ol' cheeseburger. Except, there was nothing "regular" about it. They were pretty darn good! We also ordered fries as well (a cheat for me, but one well worth it). The sauce that came with it was, simply put, heavenly. Ultimate Burger is now our go-to place for a quick, organic bite whenever we are in Kona.

Now I know where they got their name. The burger was the "Ultimate" in my book. Fresh and juicy simply just awesome. Staff was great and the beer was cold. I would go back in a heart beat. Next time I come back to the big island this will be one of my stops.

I had a tough time figuring out how to rate Ultimate Burger. Their decor is spunky, the menu is simple, and the food is local and organic. The owner did a great job. So far, 5 stars. Then the food came out. One of the cheeseburgers didn't have cheese, but the cheese-less burger owner was too hungry to ask for it to be fixed. No big deal. My food didn't come out with the other food so I assumed it was taking longer to cook. I waited, and waited some more. I went up to the counter and it turns out they didn't include my burger with the order. We needed to leave for a movie and the Ultimate Burger line was gigantic so I didn't order a (second) burger. I felt a wave of sympathy for my dog as I sat at the end of the table starring at my friends finishing their lunches. Everything smelled so good but I knew none of it was for me. In conclusion, Ultimate Burger seems like a great local burger joint. Unfortunately there are still a couple kinks in the service. Next time I'll double check my order with the cashier and again on the receipt.

My wife and I went to Ultimate Burger during our honeymoon and it was probably my least favorite meal while we were there. I ordered the jalapeno burger and somehow they managed to leave off the jalapenos. I also thought the burger had a weird almost dirty taste to it. I don't know if that was the spice rub or what but it wasn't good. My wife did enjoy her's more but altogether it wasn't great. If you have the time drive up north to Kohala Burger & Taco in Kawaihae. It will fulfill your grass-fed delicious burger craving.

We found this burger shack on our most recent visit to the big island. We were impressed with the quality of the food. They carry locally grown ingredients like Hawaiian grass fed beef and kona caught Ono. The menu is pretty limited, burgers, a salad that you can add a burger patty to and locally caught fish, when available. Each burger includes lettuce, tomoto, onions, pickles and sauce. They have extras you can add for the posted prices, like avocado, grilled onions, jalapenos, bacon, ect. My husband had the cheeseburger and I had the Ono sandwich and we split an order of fries. Both were very tasty. The hamburger patty was handmade and very juicy. The Ono was cooked perfectly, lightly seasoned then grilled, and served on a fresh bun with homemade tartar sauce. The fries were one of my favorites, thin shoestring fries, seasoned with finely minced parsley and salt/pepper, served with an aoile sauce. The drawbacks to dining here: 1. The location. It's tucked in the middle of a new shopping strip mall. 2. On the pricey side. Expect to spend $25-40 for two people. We also noticed that an 8% "fuel surcharge" was added to the bill, something to do with covering increase fuel prices-one comment- lame. Overall, I would recommend this place for a tasty lunch. In light of the pricey sub-standard food the local hotels are serving, the prices seem reasonable for the quality you get.

Sooo good! Fresh local beef and veggies, I got the standard burger and couldn't stop saying mmmmmm for hours. Got the free lemonade with yelp check-in, that was a plus and the dipping sauce with the french fries, yum!

All I can say is WOW! One of the best burgers I have ever had. Yes, I ate red meat! hehe. Only because it was grass-fed and pretty much everything in this restaurant is organic and sustainable. The flavor was amazing! Very filling and the fries are amazing! The guy that was working at the register was awesome...you could tell he really cares about the quality of the food and about the restaurant and I love supporting places like this. If you are in Kona, you have to try this place! It is in the shopping center across from Target, near Ross.

We went to Ultimate Burger on a rainy Sunday, around 2 pm. The place was PACKED! Every table was taken, and there was a line that almost reached the back of the restaurant. Outdoor seating was not an option because of the rain. We ordered an Ultimate cheeseburger with grilled pineapple (burgers were all grass fed beef), the daily special burger (caramelized onions, strawberry compote, cheese...), kids "slider" burgers (pretty small- my kids could have each had 2 or 3), fries (which came with a special dipping sauce- yum), and lemonades. Everything was delicious! The service was good, especially after the crowd died down a bit. It was a bit of a stressful dining experience because it was hard to get a table; 4 of us ended up squeezing onto a small 2-top, and we rushed to let other people have a chance to sit. But overall, we are fans, and would definitely go back!

Before we walked in the door, they already had huge shoes to fill because we have a similar burger place in Flagstaff, Az. Well, they did not disappoint! The burger here is very beefy tasting and i love that you can add grilled pineapple! I had the locally grown mushrooms, caramelized onion and grilled pineapple. YUMM! The bun is so soft and buttery (i try not to eat bread, but i had to make an exception and it was well worth it!). The fries were realy fresh and crispy. As for the price, i am willing to pay $14+ for a grass fed burger any day! The only thing I wish they offered was a side salad that was less than $8.99 for those who don't want fries.

Delicious burgers made with local beef, fantastic buns, and fresh, organic veggies. Not to mention beer on tap! The only thing that keeps me from giving it give stars are that the prices are a little steep--$1 to add a single slice of cheese?

If your looking for a real fresh QUALITY burger, then this is the place. Fresh bun, fresh produce, fresh beef = ALL GOOD. Add this up and top it off with good service and you've got a winner.

I love to support local businesses. The neighbors to this joint are Panda Express, Subway in a strip mall. Hmm... The thyme-covered home-made fries are awesome. Hand over more of that heavenly aioli please! The ingredients are local-sourced and can I say more of the pillowy sweet hamburger bun that supported the generously overhanging beef burger? And my fave thing about the place is that the kitchen staff get to yell, "Lucky, number X" and step out from behind the counter to serve up your order. First, you feel "lucky" to be eating that food. And the staff get to connect with the customers who order and appreciate the food. It's the circle of a good business.

It's Ok. Meat certainly seems fresh ground and buns are nice texture...but beyond that nothing too special. For the price I guess I was expecting more. Yes...everything is more expensive in Hawaii...but $4 for smaller serving if fries seems high. We did not go beyond burgers & fries .... but they are called Ultimate Burger... So why should we?

what is the most integral ingredient in burgers that makes a good burger stand out from an unforgettable burger? the meat. this burger was good, but the meat was not phenomenal. Meat in Hawaii is DELICIOUS (with open range cows enjoying volcanic grass? duh!) but why is this meat only good, rather than amazing? im not sure. the fries were these cute little crisps (if you were looking for a hearty steak fry, go elsewhere), the water was free, the buns were fine, the blue cheese was correct... but the burger just didnt BLOW me away. it was good, just not great. the price was fine. I'd go back easily. btw- the best burger i have ever had in my LIFE was in Hawaii. But it wasnt at Ultimate Burger.

It is a culinary crime to only serve your local grass fed beef burgers as Medium or Well done. If you aren't allowed to cook a rare burger, please disclose that on the front of your establishment so I don't wait in line to order. Have you heard of sweet potato fries? It is a new trend that you might want to jump on...I think burger king offers sweet potato fries now. The only beer you can get is the Longboard Lager...so if you like Longboard your golden. Because I like my meat rare, I opted for the seared Ahi burger. (yea, they'd do a seared ahi but not a rare burger. I don't get it either.) The "Ahi Burger" was actually pieces of ahi (a la poke cubes) on a bun with lettuce, tomato, white onion, garlic aioli on a bun. I wouldn't say it was a perfect culinary sear, but it remained raw in the middle which was the most important part. It was a bit cumbersome to eat because the Ahi was in chunks so everytime I lifted it to eat chunks of Ahi fell out the back. My husband got the double decker burger with blue cheese. He got his Medium and asked " is there anyway you can make mine as rare medium as possible?" Well he thought the burgers retained a lot of moisture, but it was more well done as there was no pink whatesoever. Maybe the guy at the counter meant Medium well or well done? Whatever the case, it was a well done burger. Fries are a shoestring style with herbs and a garlic aioli. The garlic aoili was really good. Fries were cooked to perfection. Ultimate Burger uses fresh local ingredients, which I LOVE, but there is a lack of real choice. There is an illusion of having lots of choices but in reality you have only a handful of options. The lack of getting anything other than a well done burger makes this an A-Ok establishment that I am unable to try ever again. I just can't eat a well done grass fed burger. End of story.

I tried the Sweet Mona burger special. Great tasting burger with bacon, grilled onion, lettuce, cheddar cheese, and strawberries. I was surprised at how well it all came together. Their fries are pretty good, too. Plus, if you check-in on Yelp while there you get a free lemonade.

I would give 5 stars if the prices were just a little bit lower. But hands down the best burger I ever ate. Before trying this place, my favorite was Teddy's Bigger Burger. But they can't compare with fresh grass-fed Big Island beef. Everything is ala carte, so toppings, fries and drink is separate. Prices start at $8 for a single patty. My double was $10, fries $4 and drink $2. For this price you could have a full meal at a restaurant. But since I was on vacation, it was ok to splurge and I enjoyed it.

Amazing find on the big island. The generic strip mall setting is very deceiving because this is the kind of place usually found in a stand alone funky building. What's inside does justice to "burgers and fries" and then some. Living in LA , I have my pick of many great burger joints, many of them organic/grass-fed, etc. Ultimate Burger holds its own against any burger joint around. We're here for a 5 day vacation and by day 3 had already hit this place up twice! Burgers- local, grass-fed beef which is tasty and simply the right way to do things. they are a bit sloppy with sauces, lettuce, tomato, etc and that's the ONLY way to eat a burger so they get high marks there. Fries- These rank up there with the best I've ever had and this is from a guy who was just in Portland, Maine eating fries at the famous Duckfat Restaurant. Seriously, if you don't want a burger, it's worth a trip for these skinny, slightly crispy, seasoned to perfection spears of joy. Drinks- Great house-made lemonade and iced tea. You won't be disappointed!

This was the end cap of our week long trip in Hawaii. We wanted something local with familiar food, avoiding the farmers market area on Sunday afternoon. Ultimate burger is in a newly developed shopping area across from Target. We ordered the french fries, two cheese burgers, lemonade and a beer. The burgers were cooked either with pink in the middle or medium well, we picked the medium well option. The beef is farm raised, not 100% natural, but better than what you are going to get at a fast food joint. The fries came out first, we had enough to share between us and they were a nice treat. The only complaint I had was that they only had ketchup packets, which are annoying (small gripe). The drinks were next, the lemonade was fresh and the beer was local long board.light brew. The burgers came out last, cooked just right. I had forgot to specify what I wanted on the burger and I wasn't asked when we ordered. Mayo, onions, pickles, lettuce and tomato were added to the burger. I removed the mayo, onions and pickles. The burger was juicy, fresh and enjoyable. The service was friendly, this place reminds me of five guys back the main land except with the overstuffed bag of french fries. If I was a local I would support this due to 1) Its local 2) Its a good concept with friendly service.

I tried the double decker burger and it was delicious considering I was starving when I showed up at the restaurant. The floor and counters inside are sticky and not clean. Over all, it's an okay sit down hamburger restaurant.

Oh super ultimate delicious burger!!! After a day at the beach, it appears that everyone stops here for a tasty tender patty of beef and light fluffy bun. The juicy burger was not greasy and perfectly loved with just a hint of pink in the middle suspended between fresh, fluffy clouds of toasted bun. The fries were thin sticks dusted with herbs. The aioli was a little too mayonnaisey tasting for me and too light in flavor. Overall it was a nice combo. They are expanding to Oahu and California and I am looking forward to finding them in my 'hood.

If I can add exclamation marks to the 5 stars I'm giving this place, I would. Organic grass-fed beef, organic veggies, and handmade lemonade . . . yes, I don't mind paying the extra dollars for that. The home made sauce, the fries, the aioli sauce, the brioche bread . . . everything was delicious. The burger was juicy and, yes, you can ask them to cook it to your liking. Our burgers came out fresh and hot. I had to wait a few minutes to take a second bite because my first one sizzled a bit on my tongue. The brioche bread is very fresh and soft. It practically melts in your mouth. Many of the reviews gave negative marks for the prices, but having sampled many restaurants in Kona, I feel it's pretty average for burger pricing. Yes, it's fast-food, but it's better in food quality than many restaurants. The place is very nice and clean. It's located among many other eateries and shops. Fortunately, the restrooms are right next to it so you can go and wash your hands from the juicy goodness that will inescapably get all over them. Did I mention that they are also environmentally-friendly? They use napkins made of 100% recycled products. They serve your food on actual plates and glasses for your drinks. No styrofoam products used here. I personally like that they use local products. I support local agriculture and commerce. Just saying. Don't forget to redeem your Yelp coupon using the mobile app. All you have to do is check in and show the coupon to the cashier.

It's called Ultimate Burger, but it's all about the fries. Is it wrong to feel this way about fries? The basic fries are finger-licking good but the sauce is what really puts them into the stratosphere of French Fry Royalty. Nice to know the burger is local beef and all that, but what ever you do, order the fries. Did I mention the fries are good?

  • Valerie S.

I thoroughly enjoyed the burger here, great flavor and quality. I generally use lots of ketchup on burgers, but these were so well seasoned and flavorful that we didn't need it. The fries were nicely seasoned and crispy too. The lemonade was ultra tart, so only order it with caution.

After eating here numerous times I get charged for the 1st time for an extra sauce after my original sauce was only half full...when questioned about this I was told that's how our mgr told us to ...I asked if the manger was in and told no. Later the "hostess" walked around to see how everyone was, when I said no there was no follow up and I actually got ignored the rest of the evening. It doesn't have to be this way...the burger and fries are great but the service leaves a lot to be desired...smile & act like you are happy to have my business...

They happily cut my Mom's burger in half. She usually brings half of her meal home because she's 80 something pounds and basically a 1/3 pound burger is like a 1/3 of her body. I usually have to remind her to "eat" enough. I obviously didn't take after that side of the family. Well, I was so mesmerized by my juicy cheeseburger with bacon that I really didn't notice when Mom moved to her second half. I was also being entertained by live Hawaiian music in the restaurant - a very surprising and unusual touch in a burger joint. I almost stopped Mom from finishing off her burger because I was afraid she was going to burst. But she was mumbling between bites how good it was. This was on top of sharing an order of fries. The other reviews speak enough about the quality of the burgers and the fresh ingredients. I think Mom finisihing off her burger is the Ultimate testimony to have Ultimate Burger earn a big 4 stars.

My mouth is beginning to water over the food I remember from this place.. I was here on vacation with family and dining here was the greatest choice we've ever made. I'm a vegetarian, so I had this organic mushroom sandwich/burger with jalapenos and grilled onions.. Heaven on a bun. And their beautifully seasoned fries with this garlic-y, creamy sauce.. Hohoho, it is something to sit and savour. The sauce is the best sauce I've tasted in a long time. The rest of my family seemed to enjoy their grass-fed, stress-free beef burgers as well! We all left with happy bellies, I can assure you that much. They give you choices of caramelized onions, jalapenos, sauteed mushrooms, avocado, bacon & pineapple to add to the burgers on their menu.. Pretty large selection of add-ons! They serve fresh lemonade, green tea, beer or soda also. I have to say the whole meal itself will be pretty pricey considering that they're located in a tourist hole.. but it's worth it! I can rave over this place all day.. and you'll probably wonder why there's a missing star.. Well, when the waitress brought out my green tea, she spilled it on the table and left.. I waited for awhile to see if she'd clean it and she didn't... Great. I cleaned it myself and she didn't even come to check up while we were there. 1 star deduction! Other than that little unsatisfying factor, the food here is great. Go, go, go!

Never been to Ultimate Burger so I had to try it. Burgers was okay. Bun was soft so it soaked up a lot of the juice so it was a mess. Fries were not hot. Flavor okay...too loud with kids banging xylophone toys and a tv going off with music that doesn't match...? A little confusing.

The burgers are tasty, Im not gonna lie! The fries are some of the best I've had, and the sauces are great too. The sweeter sauce for the burger is my favorite to dip the fries in. The only thing that makes me cringe is when I see the poor guys/ladies holding up the sign on the corner. Its so hot outside, I would never make someone do that. Eeck!

As we drove into Kona from the airport we saw a guy holding a sign for Ultimate Burger, by the main road. Over the course of a couple of days we got a few recommendations for this place, and since we do almost everything by the seat of our pants, we ended up there this evening. I was a little skeptical because we had been given recommendations by several people (including on Yelp) for a local, but out of the way, place called Annie's. We were quite disappointed with Annie's, but that is a different review. We walked in and the place was clean and the staff was friendly. We each got different burgers and two orders of fries for 5 of us to share. I was blown away. The locally raised beef, fresh ingredients and tasty fries were great. The burger was juicy and flavorful. The seasoning on the fries was great. We all had the same reaction to the quality and the taste. I can't wait to go back there to try another burger.

This is now my favorite burger, period. Forget 5 Guys, Smashburger, or SW Florida's 'Cheeburger Cheeburger'. Organic and locally grown everything, grass fed organic beef, perfectly seared and cooked to order, homemade bun that was just the right amount of bread to meat ratio- not to mention the friendly service, the cook who made our meal brought our order to us, friendliness of all the staff. Love the thinner fries and sauce...perfect '10' in every department.

OK, folks, get real. It's a BURGER. And that's about it. Certainly not worth the price. There is nothing about this place that justifies the hype or the outrageous prices. You don't even get a side with the thing without paying extra. And what on earth is that "fuel surcharge" on the receipt, about? No one seems to know. Oh, and get rid of the idiots spinning the signs up on the corner. Low class to the max. You want a great burger and a good atmosphere, head to Quinns. Leave Underwhelming Burger alone.

WOW, Good Burger! There's a ton of people in and out of this little "diamond in the ruff" but man am I glad we gave it a try. I don't care what anybody says, you cant beat a burger like this. Made from scratch, and I could see them do it! They put work in between those tastey buns! WOO!

I had the ultimate cheeseburger and ultimate fries! They were SO GOOD! I also love that everything is fresh, never frozen and that the burgers are grass raised with no hormones, you can definitely taste the difference! Definitely coming back when I'm on this side of the island again!

The fries were great, especially with the aioli dipping sauce. The burger, on the other hand, was tough and overcooked. It also tasted very......grassy? For a restaurant that markets themselves with grass fed beef, I suppose it could be a compliment. It was, however, too grassy-tasting for me to finish it. Plus, I paid $5.99 for a hamburger between two buns, without anything else. Don't know if I'll be back.

I discovered these guys at the Honolulu Farmers' Market. Found out they have a restaurant in Kona, please open one here!! Fresh grass fed beef = some delicious burgers! I had the ultimate burger and the gf had the ultimate cheese burger. Both were cooked to order and we also ordered some of the fries... I was really impressed how carefully they handle their food, even the plating... They make it look so delicious. We really enjoyed our burgers and my only regret is I should have ordered the lemonade!! Oh well, next time... Our order did take a little long today, but it was well worth the wait. I'd wait again for another burger!!! But, like I said earlier, please open one here!!

The Grass-fed beef they serve here in their burgers means the burgers, no matter what you put on them, have the best highest quality beef and amazing flavor to them. Seriously, whatever your burger has on it, it'll be delicious. And the fries with the aioli sauce for dipping? Great! If you're from the mainland, this burger will definitely compete (and possibly beat) your local burger place...

  • M. M.

Fantastic burger and fries. The all natural beef is delicious, and I LOVE the brioche bun. The fries cut thin and the perfect crispness, and are tossed in an amazing blend of herbs and garlic. Their lemonade is also very tasty. I used the coupon here on Yelp for a free one! I however did not appreciate the personal insult from the punk that took my order, which is why i only gave it 2 stars. Just because you have good food doesn't mean you get to talk to customers however you please!!

Too many reviews to catch up on, too much coffee. This will be a quickie. Ultimate burger is fantastic. Props for using organic, local beef and produce in your food. Others should follow your example in supporting local businesses, and in serving great food. You can start with a plain burger and add all sorts of goodies from avocado, grilled onions to gorgonzola. My burger was made just how I asked, and the food came out fast. The local beef is very good, and they will cook your burger rare if you ask it. The seasoned fries with aioli are some of the best I have had in a while, although a bit on the pricey side at $3.99....Great, but I think that $3.25 is more reasonable and would be more profitable in the long run. Other than that, no complaints. The staff is super friendly, helpful and very professional. An absolute must if you are looking for a good burger in Kona.

Me and my boyfriends first time here. We came for lunch in a Saturday. It was quite busy, but not too crowded. We ordered burgers and a pitcher of beer! Burgers were great, we did think they would be bigger since the plain burger was $5.99. Kama'aina gets 10% off which was a plus for us! We will be back.

I heard that they had good burgers made with local grass-fed cattle and so I was excited to try them. I have health issues preventing me from eating gluten and have been having a lot of trouble on my vacation finding gluten free options. I called ahead of time to ask if they happened to have gluten-free buns. I was so pleased when they said yes! This restaurant was NOT close to where we were staying, but upon hearing this news of gluten-free, I decided to take the extra trek. When we arrived and ordered, I asked for their gluten free bun and the girl said that she wasn't sure but that she thinks all their buns are gluten-free. I said that "wasn't sure" wasn't good enough and to please check. We went and sat down to wait for our order. She came over and said that "No, none of their buns are gluten-free" and would I just like mine without a bun. I said no and that we would just like a refund. I am compelled to write this review in hopes that they will have a staff meeting and make sure that the people that answer their phones are educated on their products. I'm pissed that we made a drive for nothing!

I had the opportunity to try Ultimate Burger's french fries at the Eat the Streets food truck rally this past Friday. $4.00 for a generous portion of freshly cut fries served with an aioli dipping sauce. An additional order later and I am officially a fan. The workers manning the booth mentioned that they were in talks about possibly opening up in Oahu and I for one can't wait. I know... it's french fries. How could french fries be that good? Well, it was the combination of crispy, salty, garlicy and not greasy deliciousness that made me a fan for life. Oh and the aioli dipping sauce made it that much better. I hope they're at the next Eat the Streets and hopefully with more choices because I can't wait to try the rest. I would pass on their freshly squeezed lemonade but the french fries were great!

Awesome. Just come and order anything, it will be tasty. Avocados on the burger are key. The fries are great, the beer glasses frosted, lemonade fresh.

Updating the Ultimate Burger review for two reasons: 1. The owners responded so fast to the review, which is just good business and appreciated. 2. We believe that it was a random error that day in the way the meat was seasoned, i.e., they just hadn't included salt (again, it radically changed the burger - in a good way - once we did). We're going back, and may end up with a third update and more stars.

Ultimate Burger was a great find. As a visitor, a few die hard locals were trying to sway us against having burgers while on the island but thank goodness we didn't listen to them! I'm not even a huge burger fan and I found this place to be really good. The burgers are yummy and the fries were even better. The team at Ultimate Burger was super nice and just overall great little place to have a good burger.

We moved to Kona from another island a year and a half ago. When we first tried Ultimate Burger back then, it was phenomenal! The burgers were big and juicy, and the fries were to-die-for. Yes, the food took a little while to come out, but it was always worth the wait and made the price of the food justifiable. At this point, it seems like the restaurant is cruising on the reputation it earned last year. If it keeps doing this, it's going to start losing popularity. The burgers are now thin, dry, and tough. They don't taste fresh. Even when it's med-rare, it's not juicy at all. It's like they pre-make them or have a machine do it. Whatever they are doing to try and save time and save a buck, it's over-working the meat. I would rather wait a while longer for better food. Also, they used to give you fresh jalapenos when you ordered (and paid for) extra toppings. Last time I was there, it was the pickled kind from the jar. Interestingly, the price of the food there has increased "because of rising gas prices." I would like to see this restaurant get back to the people-pleasing quality that made it well known in the first place. The customer service is still good: friendly, smiling staff.

We went there after finding the high ratings. We were thoroughly disappointed. The burgers were small, greasy and flavorless, even with the various toppings. It's expensive for the portion you get, so not a great value. We found Annie's was much better.

Don't let the crazy sign spinning guy on the highway put you off: this place is serious about farm to table food goodness. Local produce, local grass fed beef and deft seasoning make for excellent, reasonably priced burgers. Try the new spice rub or opt for the aoli (intended for the fries) on your burger. Don't forget the fries - double fried and tasty.

This burger joint is not a mistake to visit it has nicely textured and flavored French fries that out beat burgervilles French fries in the Pacific Northwest. I like how the cows are grass fed because the meat has a very good flavor . This place gives decent sized portions and is a nice place to sit down.

Our first meal in Kona. It's pretty good. The buns remind me of umami burger (in LA). and the fries with the aioli sauce are damn good too! *sigh* I want to go back to the Big Island now :P

"Had to make a comment about Ultimate Burger in Kona, the best fries ever!!! I never even order fries and only eat a few off of my husbands plate but I couldn't stop eating them!! Delish!! And the burger was awesome too!! The burger was cooked just right, MR, it was juicy and the brioche bun was the bomb!! Wish we found the place earlier in our trip because I would have come here more times!! The staff was super friendly also.

Great burgers. We tried two burgers and fries with aioli sauce and everything was good. More like a restaurant burger taste versus fast food. It's a little more pricey than other places (it came to about $23 for two burgers, one order of fries and two drinks), but the flavor was good and everything was fresh. We tried one cheeseburger with gorgonzola/spice rub and one cheeseburger with aged cheddar/spice rub/avocado. The staff was very nice too and it's conveniently located near the local movie theaters up the road, if you want to grab a quick bite before a show.

Awesome burgers and even better fries! I'm sad that we waited until our second to last day to come here because I would have liked to try a few different burger combinations (including a local fish and mushroom burger). A little pricey for two burgers and a shared order of fries, but well worth it for the quality, local ingredients! Also, great customer service! Be sure to check in and get a free fresh-squeezed lemonade. It is awesome!

We discovered the Ultimate Burger before our trip to the Big Island via a coupon on FB - $10 got us $20 worth of food. So we ate at UB twice while in Hawaii. The burgers are grass-fed beef and you can choose lots of toppings for your burger. The fries were really great. They support local businesses and purchase their fruits & veggies from the farmers market. When we go back to the Big Island we'll be sure and stop by. Sure wish they put an UB in Ventura!

Ultimate Burger is a great burger for the money (especially since you are in Hawaii!). The place is small and is located in a strip center, but so much better than the resort burger. The fries are great and the people very nice. Wish we would have eaten here more.

The burger and lemonade was good. The beef had a little different taste to it, perhaps because it was grass fed. Overall it was fresh and appetizing. Much better than a lot of other local offerings.

After reading reviews we decided to try it. Friendly staff a plus... Fries....a bit on the salty side but good. I would say a bit overpriced for the size. Burger....flavor was good...bun needed to be a bit firmer for the meat and toppings. Didn't hold together well. Price...saw a few younger potential patrons walk and in then walk out. It is a bit overpriced for this type of venue...I would say lower the price by just a bit and it would draw more attention (and personally...it would be price worthy as adding any toppings, other than a bit of lettuce, a pickle, a slice of tomato and onion, adds up quickly). One cheese burger, fries, a burger with bacon, avocado and a beer...$28 plus tip. Overall...it was a nice change of pace from the island norm. Just read response...and our bill states that it was $28.68 (and we added a tip to that...so oops....guess there was an overcharge).

After reading the great reviews of this place, I knew I had to give it a go. Ultimate Burger is a small burger joint in a strip mall. Their burgers are "100% fresh ground Big Island beef & grass fed without hormones or antibiotics. Fresh - Never Frozen." I ordered the Ultimate Hamburger 1/3 lb. They are "cooked medium & include a toasted brioche bun, hand leafed organic lettuce, claussen pickles, "Maui" onions, vine ripened Waimea tomatoes and House Made Ultimate Sauce." If you would like to order cheese (aged cheddar, Gruyere Swiss or Gorgonzola blue cheese), sauteed mushrooms, caramelized "Maui" onions, local avocado, Hawaiian grown grilled pineapple or applewood bacon, you will be charged $1 per addition. The Ultimate Hamburger was absolutely delicious & delivered on taste. The hamburger patty was nicely charbroiled and all of the accompaniments were married in nicely with it. The fries are Ultimate French Fries. "Daily House cut "Big Daddy" russet potatoes, tossed in kosher salt, organic thyme & parsley, served with their house-made aioli sauce. Aside from skimping a bit on their cups of aioli, it was quite good and went wonderfully with the fries. Ultimate Burger is a definite must if visiting Kona. I highly recommend it.

Just awesome! Went on vacation on the Big Island and found out about this place. All the locals rave about it. Fantastic burgers and fries. Fries are freshly cut, served with garlic mayo. Burgers are big and loaded with whatever you like. This is a definite must if you are in Kona.

Total props on being organic and supporting local foods. That AND the food was pretty darn good makes it a winner. Local Big Island beef was good (as always) but not as juicy as Honolulu Burger Co. Regardless, the burger in its entirety was still yummy. Fries were definitely the highlight. Watch out though, everything is ala cart and it does add up quickly.

For a quick service restaurant, this place rocks. They use all local ingredients and it shows. We had the cheeseburger, with avocado of course. The fries are hand-cut and the homemade aoli is delish. Their lemonade and ice tea is fantastic, and they also have local beers. They're opening up a 2nd location in Santa Monica, hopefully they'll get to SF at some point.

Minimal menu meant exceptional delivery on what they focus on. Very tasty. We got one order of their famous fries and had to go back and order a second. Those spices and THAT SAUCE. Chill atmosphere and we were able to watch the game on their big screens while we ate. Perfect.

Since I am a big fan of cheeseburgers, I stopped by this restaurant many times. It is, by far, my favorite burger place on the Big Island. The burgers, cooked to medium, were the right amount of juicy, and the beef had this perfect concoction of spices that didn't over power the overall flavor of the burger. The ingredients were very fresh, and the aioli sauce complemented everything. Their fries were pretty good. I do prefer my fries to be a bit larger for the amount I am paying (not necessarily steak fry size), but it was worth getting them once in a while. Their flavor was pretty ultimate and the aioli sauce was awesome with them. I tried the TKO burger, and it was very tasty, although I would say the beef definitely overpowered the fixings. I'm good with the single patty burger, but I've heard from people that the aioli overpowered the taste of everything else. I can definitely agree that I was the most satisfied when I ordered the double decker, as I got a balanced taste of both meat, sauce, and fixings. I didn't order any of the add-ons, but the maui onions are said to be legit. My vegetarian friends also had misgivings about going to an ultimate burger place, and a little disgusted with me for being so stoked about eating there, but they did enjoy the Alii Mushroom Sandwich. Fun things to do there is to check out the Wall of Champions and to stare at the Ultimate Burger sign dude that comes in every few hours for his break. Make sure to honk if you drive past him on the highway!

I ordered a cheeseburger and added bacon and it was really good. Not the best burger I have had but I would go back if we come back to the big island. The fries were really yummy and the dipping sauce they came with was also yummy!! Their was a performer singing and it was pretty loud inside so we ate outside. We all got a free lemonade for checking in on yelp :) It was kind of pricey for just a burger and fries but i think it was due to the added toppings on the burger.

This place is the BEST. probably one of the best burgers anywhere. Great beef.....really decent fries and fresh, local ingredients. The location is a mall just on the edge of Kona amongst a bunch of chain places like "Taco del Mar" (shudder!) I went because I'd heard one of the owners interviewed on a local radio station.....it all sounded good. I went for the ultimate cheeseburger with gorgonzola. Ono to the max! The aioloi with the fries is terrific. if you've gotta have ketchup...it's there, too. The buns come toasted, the tomatoes are ripe and perfect and the onions are from Maui. Yum. Can't recommend this place enough. I don't get the review below complaining about seasoning and complexity. This place does it right. A very strong 5 stars.

    (5)
  • emily H.

Damn those fries are good! ...and that sauce, yum. The vegi burger, isn't quite a burger at all, but a sautee of fresh hamakua mushrooms and sweet maui onions. The burgers that everyone else ate, a real local beef patty grilled to perfection (or so they said). As we sat down, the neighbor sitting next to us was leaving, commented that he preferred Burger King... I mean really? You like imported garbage made with fillers and unpronounceable ingredients over fresh, local real food? I hope you change your mind before you have a coronary... Give it a go and decide for yourself! Love that the farmers are featured on the walls...

Ultimate burger without of doubt has the best burgers one can ever bite into. This place has the best burgers I've ever tasted! In-n-out, Five guys ,Portillo's,Habit grill and all these other burger chains got nothing on this place! Ultimate burger makes all other burgers taste like nasty Mcdonalds! I'm telling you, here you get what Burger and fries should taste like;Gourmet and Natural! They cook their burgers to order, all the food here is Organic, everything at ultimate burger is fresh! From all beef to all the produce and everything is delivered daily from Local farms and the seafood is caught locally. You don't get Island fresh grown goodness here in Mainland U.S like you do over in Good ole Hawaii! Last time I was here, I got there double cheeseburger, may God it was ecstasy ! It had a Nice gourmet bun, crisp lettuce, sweet Maui onions, organic sharp cheddar cheese ,whole red ripe vine tomatoes and the meat was thick n juicy and full of flavor and, it's as if I was eating Filet Mignon on a bun like at Ruth chris or Morton's steakhouse! My God it was sooo amazingly delicious! Their fries are The best natural cut fries I've ever had in my life, I can eat these all day non stop! They're freshly cut shoestring fries deep fried to a golden brown perfection, tossed in Sea salt, thyme,Parsley and served with an aioli sauce! These beat out Houston's fries! When you visit Ultimate burger, never forget to try their fresh squeezed Lemonade sweetened with pure cane sugar! Refreshing, sweet and tar just like how Grandma makes it! All that alone doesn't give these burgers and fries justice to describe how outstanding they are. Yes these burgers are over the top and i'm crazy enough to seriously fly 5 to 6 hours a day from California just to have one of these burgers. The Owner Wendy, is a very welcoming down to earth person with integrity and I really appreciate her for advocating Natural/Organic foods and in helping support local farms with their ability to provide food the natural way that God intended for our well being. Ultimate burger deserves more the 5 stars. Once you try these burgers, it'll be as if you died and went to Heaven!

I am in Kona for the first time and gave this place a try based on the other reviews and because when I googled best burgers in kona this was the only place to come up. It is a good burger, surprisingly though, because it is really a simple concept and there were not as many options as I would have imagined. These are basically just bacon cheese burgers with grilled onions (if you want it) and you can add pineapple and/or avocado. Watch out for the beer...the draft kona lager tastes like bud light. I have only had it in the bottle previously back home and it did not taste like bud light. All in all, go check it out and enjoy!

Good little burger and nice skinny fries. This was our last meal on the island and thankfully it was a good one. We'd likely go back. I will say it gets pretty busy at lunch time so either have a friend snag a table as soon as you go in or get it to go.

Love this place! Locally grown products and grass fed beef! The fries with aioli perfect! Yummmmmmmo! We ate here not long after we landed in Kona... It's right across from Target and next to some chain eateries... We love great food and locally owned... We loved it sooo much that we returned for lunch 2 days later. We will miss ultimate burger when we return to the mainland.

Went to the Big Island for a wedding back in April and stopped here for a quick bite. Well, one visit turned into four visits. Burgers are one of the best I've had..super juicy and flavorful. Love the fries and the dipping sauce. One suggestion: Please add FRIED EGG as an additional topping. I would love to see this place expand. I forgot the name of the guy who was helping us (Tall Guy, originally from Texas) but he was super cool.

Oh yeah... now that's the stuff! Great burgers, fries and beer. What more do you want? Love that items are locally sourced and the place is local-owned. We took our family there and the kids enjoyed their food and the toys/play area. Service was efficient and friendly. The only thing missing was a good milkshake for the ultimate decadence! We'll definitely be returning.

Truly as good as it gets when it comes to burgers, fries and lemonade! Everything is fresh and delicious! The fries are perfect- crunchy and salty- just the way I love them. The burgers are nice and juicy I love to add avocado & bacon. The best tomatoes & always fresh lettuce. I am here every chance I get (which is 2-3 times a week when I am in Kona). This is NOT fast food, it is amazing, organic and local food made to order in a quick amount of time.

Ultimate Burger is one of those transformational dining experiences. You think, OK, Burger & Fries, I'm gonna get stuffed and then feel guilty. But you gotta do what you gotta do. Let's face it, we all do that. But then, you find yourself unexpectedly upbeat from your order experience with the very affable cashier, who turns out to be the owner, and who shares that she is a graduate of the Culinary Institute in San Francisco. So your thinking, Culinary Institute Hamburgers. Hmmm. How bad can that be? Ahhhh. Not bad at all. These are the burgers you remember from when you were a kid. The meat is excellent. The herbs and spices are perfectly balanced. I ordered mine with jalapeno's, but you can have it your way with apple bacon, three kinds of cheese, etc. The meal comes quickly and you can enjoy a selection of local or imported brews on draft while you wait. Oh, and the fries are incredible. Eat them first while they are hot! Not sure why Wesley S. found the recipe too complex. It is and was pure heaven for me, and I come here as often as I can. Prices are reasonable and the satisfaction lasting.

Family of 4 stopped by Ultimate Burger on our way to the airport for a quick bite to eat. Had heard it was great from several different folks and UB didn't let us down. The burgers were delicious as were the fries sprinkled with thyme. While you might think the prices are a bit high, I challenge you to find a cheaper place on the island that isn't a fast food place. On top of that, the beef is all local and organic, so how can you beat that? The food was great and we were completely happy with it, but it was taken to the next level as the owner of UB stopped for a few minutes to talk to us and took our plates for us! She seemed like a genuine person and very passionate about her business. She truly embodied the 'aloha' spirit. It was really a nice way to end our trip to the Big Island and you can bet that next time we're in Kona we will be giving this restuarant our business again. Oh, and I would be remiss not to mention the great cashier we had. I believe she was from Estonia and she was super great, too! Very friendly!

Ultimate Burger was great! We had the burgers. Then buns were really good as well as the meat. It had a different flavor, that was good. The fixings on the burger were all very fresh. The fries were crispy & the dipping sauce, delicious! They got the food out pretty fast. Very tasty! Glad we tried it!

One word to describe the burger at this newest burger joint in Kona would be: fresh-and-complex. I like my burgers fresh & SIMPLE, so I probably won't become a regular customer at the Ultimate Burger, but that does not mean it is not good tasting. In fact, they seem to make extra efforts to make tasty burgers - perhaps too much effort. As copied from their PR material, they use "100% natural, freshly ground Big Island beef, grass fed without hormones or antibiotics." So far so good, I'd say. But then they "mix with a blend of fresh herbs and seasonings." Hmmm. If they use such good beef, why add all the herbs and seasonings? Why not let the beef speak for itself? $5.95 for a burger, $6.95 for cheesburger. Other ingredients include hand-leafed local lettuce, Waiamea beefsteak tomatoes, thinly sliced onions, Claussen pickles and their secret sauce. They also say to use "toasted" fresh bun, with the quotation marks around toasted. I don't know what that means, but mine did not come toasted - it was cold. Optional toppings include sauteed Cremini mushrooms, Balsamic infused onions, and applewood-smoked bacon, each one for 99 cents. I am not sure if I want my onions in the burger infused with Balsamic vinegar, so I did not try that option. Their French fries are "Big Daddy Russet potatoes peeled and cut daily, tossed in salt and thyme and served with their house-made garlic aioli. " $2.99. Not bad, but freshly made French fries are good with just salt, too. Their lemonade is made with "fresh squeezed lemons and organic Hawaiian cane sugar." $2.49. Yes, I could tell it was not a Minutemaid-variety. By now, I think you get my drift. Fresh and complex. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad tasting. I think they are trying too hard, or think they have to do something fancy to justify the cost. They are located inside the Kona Commons shopping center, at the corner of Queen Kaahumanu Hwy and Makala Blvd.

I was really not impressed... First of all, this is insanely overpriced, even for Hawaii. More importantly, though, the food just isn't that great and the customer service was flat-out awful. I ordered a standard cheeseburger, well-done. I got a very, very pink one - twice! And I did not need the attitude that was served up on the side when I asked for the mistake to be fixed. Will definitely not be coming back, there are plenty more ono options with more aloha spirit.

Absolutely awesome burgers and fries. We were surprised by how delicious this place was. Top-shelf ingredients make such a huge difference. And their fries were dynamite. Our only knock is the price. Gotta pay extra for anything more than the basics.

Very nice burgers - one of the best I tasted. A bit pricy but you can derive utility from this being locally grown and "organic" (whatever is meant by this term). I myself do not care about these food fashions - but burgers are indeed really nice. Fries are out of this world! Will definitely return.

I am very fussy about my burgers, my husband calls me "wimpy". When I saw this place on yelp, I was a little skeptical. What a great surprise! The burger was wonderful. The meat was juicy and cooked just the way I like it. The fries were sooooo good. Must have great fries with a good hamburger. The only part that was disappointing was their coke machine was out of order, had to have lemonade. Otherwise everything was fantastic!

Great burgers, delicious fries & dipping sauce to die for! Service was excellent. You're going to pay a bit more than the average burger joint, but the fresh ingredients, beer on tap and brioche hamburger buns are worth it! Make sure to order your hamburger "medium" for best flavor. Nothing wrong with a little pink in a hamburger, especially with beef as fresh theirs. Definitely coming back for more!

Solid burger. For being open fairly late, if you are looking for something quick that isn't McDonald's I'd hit this place up. I went there twice while vacationing. However, both times I visited the dining room was pretty messy (hence the 3 star rating). Would consider getting this to go.

Eat here! skeptical at first, but after reading the yelp reviews decided to stop. Great tasting burger and fries! Service was friendly and didn't have to wait long for the food. Yummy garlic aioli sauce to accompany the fries.

I tried this place out last year when they had just opened and was fairly impressed by their burgers, so I gave them another visit this year on my vacation. The burgers are made with fresh, local ground beef which is very flavorful and juicy. The toppings are also of good quality. As far as getting your money's worth... I dunno, maybe if the double decker burger was like $8 it would be a bargain, but at $10 it's getting pretty pricey for what you get. But, since Kona is a tourist trap I guess it's expected to pay extra

We were looking for a quick meal before a movie and found Ultimate Burger. We thought the place was great. Hormone-free, grass fed beef with organic ingredients and fresh-baked buns. Please, open one in California. Simple menu, wonderful fries, friendly staff. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is the fast food, fluorescent light feeling inside. The food is too good for the decor. Clean and with easy parking. We loved it.
